I'm aiming to make 40 Pico-8 carts in 2018. This is the first!

It's a tribute/port of the Nobody Cares About Your Dreams song from Cool Ghosts Episode 1. Non-interactive, it lasts for about 40 seconds before looping.

A little devlog can be found here.

EDIT: Run the player in the fullscreen for less framedropping/better timing!

The original video is here:

Hi all!

I know that a MAME cabinet is illegal, even if no payment to play is required.

What about setting up a cabinet with PICO-8?

Would that be ok to let people in the pub enjoy a relaxing game now and then (clearly for free)?

Thanks for your help.

Hi there,

I am very new to Pico-8 and programming etc.

I have always been interested in visual effects synced to music etc.

Is there a way in Pico-8 to use FFT processing to make things react to musical elements?

Sorry if this is in the wrong area to discuss!

Thanks!

A small code snippet containing a fully commented function to display an 80's style grid that will wrap neatly around the screen with movement.

Created for my own PvP space game.

This is our first game for Pico-8! It was done by 3 good friends ( @Davigo, @MNXANL, and Rucadi) and me for the Global Game Jam of 2018. I had looked at a few tweetcart codes, but we mostly went in blind. We're quite happy with the result!

It's a 2v2 4-player combat game (do controllers work with the web version?) where you and another person control a mage and gotta kill the other 2, but your spells are "transmitted" to your partner, so while you move your own character, you attack and shield from your partner's, and vice versa.

This is the Game Jam submission page: https://globalgamejam.org/2018/games/bindmage-duels

Could the SFX editor allow moving between SFX 00 and 63?

ie, pressing '-' while on SFX 00 would go to 63, and pressing '+' while on SFX 63 would take you to 00.

Plus similar behaviour when clicking the < > icons.

If you use the REBOOT command, the current changes aren't backed up as per with SHUTDOWN.

  1. Make a new project.
  2. Add some code.
  3. Type REBOOT at command prompt.
  4. Note there is no 'backing up' message, and nothing saved to /backup folder.

If you use the +/- keys to navigate through SFX positions, and then Cmd+C (Mac) to copy, it actually copies the SFX that was last selected by mouse (rather than the currently selected SFX).

To reproduce:

  1. Make two different SFX patterns in 00 and 01.
  2. Select SFX 00 with the mouse.
  3. Hit '+' key to select SFX 01.
  4. Press Cmd+C.
  5. Select SFX 02 (using mouse or keys, doesn't matter).
  6. Press Cmd+V.
  7. Note that the SFX pasted will be 00, not 01.

I've only tested this on Mac but I guess it's likely the same on Windows (with Ctrl+C).

Second game I've made in Pico-8. Lazer because you fire lazers and Troid because it has the Metroid theme.

You need to find your opponents and defeat them, but your energy is always draining and you only have 5 shots. There are charging pads all around you where you can recharge your energy and shots, BUT! If you recharge on a pad, it TRANSMITS a pulse throughout the level, giving away your position. You can use the pulses from other players to find them and defeat them. If you lose all your charge, you'll lose one heart. Lose all your hearts and you die. You can also fire at other players to make them lose hearts, so watch out for stray shots. The fewer players there are left, the faster your energy drains, so defeat your foes quickly!

This is a 4-player split-screen there-can-be-only-one style game. It requires 4 controllers to play.

This game was created in 48 hours for Global Game Jam 2018 with PIGSquad.

A game I made for a short little game jam at my university. Heavily inspired by the Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy series. I put in probably just around 20 man hours.

Archimedes!! is a clone of Palamedes by HOT-B, an old game for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Match dices and then use Yahtzee-style combos to delete more dices from the board. Survive as long as you can, while the dice fall faster and faster.

CONTROLS:
Left and right arrow keys/Left and right on the Pico-8 D-Pad: Move Archimedes
Z/Pico-8 O key: Change dice color
X/Pico-8 X key: Shoot dice
Down arrow/Down on the Pico-8 D-Pad: Confirm combo and clear lines

COMBOS:
3 of the same number in a row (ex. [i][b]3-3-3
