Really enjoyed... I loved how at first the game didn't make any sense until I realized there was a time limit, which tied everything together and made the strategy arise from the constraint.
I somehow managed to get 3499, but I had trouble getting as high as 2000 again after that... There seems to be a really high degree of luck involved since it's so dependent on the ratio of blue ghosts vs everything else... Also it's pretty tough if there's a lot of yellow shooter dudes.
I think it would be really cool if the things that were spawned weren't entirely random, like maybe the more things that are on the screen the more likely it is to spawn harder mobs, or maybe the further back the shot came from... Something like that. Would make it less tedious to get a high score since right now you have to play over and over til you get a good "roll" so to speak.
Fantastic game! Really fun to kinda set your own difficulty and push the limits. I learned a lot about programming on the pico8 from this cart.
I actually made my own mod of to enable the green squid, change the spawning, add a "sprint" button that consumes points, and add a new enemy "Dasher" that moves fast in short spurts. I also made you shoot faster the more points you get, and in the last 10 seconds you kinda go berserk for more points.
If anybody is interested I can give you the cart, or if the creator doesn't mind I can just post it as a mod.
