I'm starting a platformer and I can't for the life of me get collision to work. I've looked at tutorials, I've looked at code, I've looked at the docs, I've looked at my code over and over again. I think I just need fresh eyes, what am I doing wrong?

She's supposed to collide with the floor, the bottom half of the couch, and the table.

Version 1.1.0

The Fuzzy Detective Agency will help you find files and folders in your Picotron system! Just type in parts of the path to the file you want to find, and they'll find it for you.

Note: To work, Fuzzy Detective Agency needs to be unsandboxed.
To unsandbox it, load it from the command line using: `load #fuzzy_ageny -u`
Or, if you've downloaded it, right click on the icon, click 'About fuzzy_ageny.p64.png',
then uncheck the box in the bottom left.

As part of my work on Strawberry Src I implemented a fuzzy picker, so I've quickly split it out to act as a picker for the filesystem.

The first time you run it, it'll take a couple of seconds to index all your files before you can use it, but on future runs it will use a cache and update that cache in the background.

This is my first game! (I'm not counting the godot tutorial I followed because that made me feel more like a monkey at a typewriter than a developer). I like Pico-8 because I can figure stuff out myself, it's not so complicated that I feel like I need to google a tutorial just to sneeze.

I didn't even know what I was going to make when I started this, the folder it lives in is named "TEST1" lol. But you can read my devlog over at itch.io if you want to know more about making it.

Here's one for my girly gamers, I made a little dress up game. I'm very new to game design (like, this week new, this is my second game) but very passionate about girly games, as I feel that's a wildly underserved space.

A couple of years ago I made an app called bebop that generates songs in different formats, including playable Pico-8 functions. I'm happy to say different people have used it in their game projects since.

I recently added a new feature! Picotron export! Now you can generate songs and import them into Picotron. I also added a base .sfx file with instruments that you can use or tweak.

Here's a jukebox of sample songs generated with bebop. I you like any of them for a project, feel free to grab them from the code.

This is not an AI tool, I just made my own musical algorithms to generate rhythms, melodies, song structures, and other musical elements, and I tuned them to produce cool songs.

A simple wallpaper with a warp drive effect. Thought it was neat enough to upload.

A Picotron port of the Plush Girls' Sort It Out for PICO-8, complete with an online leaderboard.

There is no music yet. We need to decide later if we want to write new songs or reuse the music from the PICO-8 version..

How to Play

  • Push Left and Right Buttons to move left or right.
  • Push the Cross Button or the Down Button to pick up a block. You can hold up to five blocks at once.
  • Push the Circle Button or the Up Button to place a block.
  • Place six blocks of the same colour in a row to clear them.

The gameplay is identical to the PICO-8 version, except additional lines appear faster to make it faster-paced thus more arcade-y. We are also working on an arcade version of the PICO-8 game with similar timing changes and expect it to be released soon.

Watch the hills roll by on a rainy day. (Clock included)

An animated wallpaper I created for myself a while ago, finally released to the public.
Supports desktop themes.

A simple pong game, using windows as the ball and paddles. Uses send_message to manage the windows. Left/Right moves the left paddle, Q closes the game.

While the game is running, the scoreboard window will stay focused.

Doesn't work sandboxed, unfortunately.

Hi, I started using Pico-8 a bit but two things which would really help out:

  1. Wayland is growing and becoming the default in a lot of places. SDL2 supports wayland through an environment variable, and SDL3 has it on by default. It seems to break if I use the regular pico8 executable, but using pico8_dyn with system SDL2 (compat) works nicely (including clipboard and sound), so this isn't too much of an issue (it opens on the wrong monitor but that's a common Wayland issue).

  2. Usage of the XDG base directory specification. Currently everything is dumped into $HOME/.lexaloffle/, however since then, the standard has changed as people don't like a lot of things in their home directory. A better place would be to put it in $XDG_DATA_HOME/lexaloffle/ or if that variable isn't set, $HOME/.local/share. There's a couple more directories, perhaps $HOME/.lexaloffle/pico-8/config.txt could move to $HOME/.config/lexaloffle/pico8.txt but that's maybe a bit extra.

  3. Tiny nitpick, but it mentions using "alt+f4" to quit, but that's not guaranteed to work, however Ctrl+Q does. It was a little bit confusing but ultimately not too important.

Help Friar Jason collect all the keys!
The quicker you are the higher the bonus!
The flashing keys will give you a bonus, if you
collect the flashing keys in consecutive order then the bonus
will rise! If you pick up a non-flashing key then the flashing
key bonus resets. Get extra chances every 10,000 points that you earn.
Go for the high score! Can you help Friar Jason on all 12 levels?
How high can you get the score? this is my attempt at an old-school score attack game.
Either try to collect the keys as fast as you can, or try to collect them in flashing order

This is a demake of the most minimalistic slot machine ever, originally made in Scratch a long time ago by my student.

I like how this slot machine is completely deprived of any real stimuli...

Ghost Word Game

Ghost Word Game is a single-player game in which you challenge the built-in computer.
The basic rule is simple: if you complete a whole word, you lose.

Detailed Rules

You start the first round by choosing a letter and confirming your choice by pressing the O button.
You have only 30 seconds for your turn. If the timer runs out before you choose a letter, you lose immediately.
During the last 10 seconds of your turn, you may surrender by pressing the X button.
After you choose a letter, if the current sequence of letters does not begin any valid word, you lose immediately (This game is build on Scrabble® English language).
Then it becomes the computer's turn. The computer must also choose a letter based on your choice.
Whoever completes a whole word loses the game.

Example - UFO

"UFO" is a word, common word, I will use this as an example.
When the game begins, it is your turn to choose a letter within 30 seconds. Suppose you choose the letter 'U'.

I'm having a problem with being able to move my clothing sprites one at a time. For some reason they seem to move with the nearest one and I can't figure out why. Any thoughts?

Welcome to ravin', a joust-like by your one and only Daniel Jorgensen (or goose2point0)! Your goal? have fun with your friends! Or, you could try hitting your opponents on their heads and hitting them while they're in an egg! Just use the arrows to move, O to jump, and X to bird. It's still a WIP though, so the bots don't do anything yet. And if you have any suggestions, let me know! Enjoy!

Taking the Nature of Code by Daniel Shiffman. This is one of the first projects. Just wanted to see the distribution and how it works in pico8 HAHA.

I started this about a year ago to learn Pico-8 and 3D programming. I was inspired by electricgryphon's backrooms and Ken Silverman's Build engine. It's slow and buggy and I ran out of tokens, so I would greatly appreciate any tips on how to improve it. Overall I'm kinda happy with it though.

Features:

  • level editor
  • wall decals
  • sloped floors/ceilings

Controls:
Arrow keys: Move player/camera
Q: Toggle between 2D and 3D Mode (must be inside a valid sector to enter 3D mode)

2D Mode:
A/Z: Zoom in/out
G: Change grid size
S: Toggle grid snapping
I: Insert point
D: Delete point
Clicking on the save icon saves the level data to a text file

3d Mode:
+/-: Adjust floor/ceiling height
[/]: Adjust floor/ceiling slope
