I wanted to make something simple for my first game on PICO8, so I chose Snake. The game starts out slowly, however, as you eat more fruit the worm gets faster and faster. As you reach a certain threshold you'll reach the next level. The further you are, the higher the point multiplier.
CONTROLS:
Movement: UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT
Start: All buttons
Pause: X
Share your highscore :p

Usually arrays are 1-based in pico8 (except maps and sounds).
But if accidentally an array is initialized with array[0] = some_value, this will be a 0-based array.
Why Pico8 does not give error on that?
Assigning to zero index should result in some warning or error? How do I know in advance some arrays are 0-based?

Just a small little project I made utilizing Defy by bikibird.

This is a general server for everything on the Picotron web (podnet, browsers, web languages, IRC, radios etc etc).
We made this for:
- Sharing your web projects
- Helping standardize the web, e.g: for browsers that can use multiple languages (like pml and pnlua)
- General chat.
This was started by:
@Maeve (Meivuu) - (me!) Creator of the Super Piconet Explorer & Piconet
@StarlightDaisies (Astralsparv) - Creator of Pico Markup Language
You are welcome to join and contribute to the Picotron Web! We'd love to have you.

Okay so you know how Unity and Godot have little screens that advertise themselves, and they go in front of games that are made in them? And how Godot's is optional? And how Picotron has none?
Well I thought what if it did have one. What would it look like. 2 hours later and I made a little cart that has 2 cute little intro options, and a good bit of customization. To be clear I don't know how much of this cart is accessible but my intention is for it to all be accessible so if it isn't and you want deets lmk. The design for the assets is based on this logo
X and Z to see the two intros!

Okay soo I'm making a game for my friend group, and i plan to reveal the game along with a handheld to emulate it, just to get the full pico8 experience. but im not gonna spend 70$ on a miyoo mini pluss or something, just to find out someone won't use it. I need a REALLY cheap handheld, it can run like shii, it just need to emulate pico8!
price range: 10-20$ dollars lol

I was playing around with palettes and ended up making a fun tool to paint with light and shadows! So I felt like sharing with the community.
Hope you enjoy!
- Move the cursor with arrow keys or mouse
- Press O or left mouse button to paint with light
- Press X or right mouse button to paint with shadows
- Change the color palette in the pause menu
UPDATE 1:
- Slightly improved the paint function performance by checking less pixels per frame
- Reduced paint speed (from painting 3 circles to 1 per frame)
- Added a painting path to avoid gaps when moving the mouse too fast
- Added a slight randomization factor to the brush size
- Added an option to save screenshot

I made a game in less than a day for a game jam and i kind of like it,
so i'll leave it here if you don't mind.

Implementing nuclear throne's level generation on pico8
I have been tinkering around with procedural level generation and Pico-8 for a few days which lead me to reimplementing a portion of Vlambeer 's iconic game Nuclear Throne's level generation.
I decided to not exactly follow their algorithm but a pretty close implementation of it. Mainly because the 1:1 implementation didn't create a very good looking map on pico8 imo.
Using a combination of
- Random walk and
- Weighted directional bias (a.k.a a random % that I hand tweaked to look satisfactory, no maths involved :p)
The algorithm was able to carve out organic levels that were pretty similar to Nuclear Throne.
BlackBox
In BlackBox you are a scientist tasked with finding the location of several atoms hidden inside a mysterious black box.
Fire rays into the sides of the box and note where the rays come out on the other side, once you think you have the location of each atom, go through and guess where they are located.

BlackBox normal play mode
BlackBox pins mode (Only available when "Guess Mode" is set to "At End")

Hyperderby!
A fun, fast-paced horse racing game originally written in google sheets, now available for the Pico-8!
-Choose your horse from 4 randomly generated options!
-Consider the odds (also randomly generated, they don't mean anything)
-Listen to play-by-play from renowned announcer Manny Horsecaller!
-Wager a randomly generated item (or concept, or amount of money...)
-Lose it all in the blink of an eye!
Take it from Manny-

x to shoot,
z to bomb if you have any big stars
SUPER MODE:
-from when you collect 6 big stars
your bullets deal more damage,spread and turn blue.You also earn extra small stars per enemy defeated
-if you get 10 big stars then you get a 1UP and your shots go back to normal
BOMB:
-if you have any big stars, you can bomb, if you have enough big stars,then you can bomb multiple times in a row but with less and less power

Midi_Bridge
midi_bridge is a combination Picotron Cart and Python helper app. It allows you to send midi events across the LAN or localhost via sockets into Picotron to do things like play notes.
Work In Progress
The video below is for an older version as a proof of concept. We've developed a stand-alone executable and now supports more midi events.
See it in Action
Get the Code
The code is up on my github page
https://github.com/washburnello/midi_bridge
The Future
If there's interest, I hope to integrate it into sfx.p64.
Special Thanks To:
STVRCHLD for taking my foundation and making it more robust.

When I try to run this and it runs as expected and loads the map from within the cart when I start it via ctrl+r. It doesn't work if I type "run" and hit enter. It'll just say:"attempt to index a nil value (global 'current_map')"
What's going on? I am lost...
function _init()
current_map = fetch("map/0.map")
end
function _draw()
cls()
map(current_map[1].bmp)
end
function _update()
