You are standing outside a yellow castle. It is a fine summer day.
This is a PICO-8 homage to Atari 2600 Adventure. It's not just a nostalgia trip; I tried to make it a fun game in its own right.
Hints & History:

This is so great! I have missed you, arrow sword! Amazing job on this.

If only the dang Curse ghosts don't teleport your items away!
Other than that, great game!

If you play on hardcore mode it's not a problem :D
Edit: less cheekily, yes the skeletons are easily the biggest jerks in the game. The swamp isn't so awful once you find the second exit--that can save you one or more trips through the skeleton room. And the whole purpose of the ship is to give you a one-time bypass that you decide when to use. And, while the sword doesn't kill them, it can affect them.

The sword can push them away, yes, but they'll end up behind you and banishing your sword to oblivion, making the game harder for you.
Also: GET THIS FREAKING DUCK OFF MY CHALICE!!

It turns out since the last time I released this, some token calculation changes were made that freed up about 2000 tokens! I was able to add a lot of little things that I had wanted to do but just didn't have the tokens for.
My favorite addition is a purely cosmetic one inside the blue castle though.

Yes the chalice is for the yellow dragon (I'm not sure why people call it a duck???) Aka your mom. (Edit: I mean literally as in, the duck is yellow, you are yellow, your castle is yellow; you're on the same team.)
The red key is something of a red herring, but its uselessness has a use, if you understand the forest altar.

very nice take on Adventure with so many creative additions.. I will have to play through this one!

cheepicus, I have yet to beat this but I REALLY like it! My dad showed me "dungeons and dragons" on his intellivision, which I believe was a knock off the original Adventure.
I had trouble running this on my PocketCHIP. I eventually got it running, but it seems like, for some reason, PocketCHIP does not like conditionals being in Parentheses AND using THEN. For example
...
IF (NOT S) THEN -- causes error on PocketCHIP
...
This happens maybe 3 or 4 times in your code. I removed them and then it runs fine (besides some slowdown in the snow)

Thanks for the heads up paloblancogames. I went through cleaning up the IF statements. I don't have a PocketCHIP, so I can't test the changes I made. Let me know if the new version is still broken. And I hope I didn't mess anything else up.
As for Intellivision AD&D, to me it seems pretty directly inspired by Hunt the Wumpus. Exploring a cave by sound and blind-firing bouncy arrows is totally some wumpus huntin action. I wouldn't be surprised if Colossal Caves and Adventure's bat were inspired by Hunt the Wumpus, too.

damn that blue maze and its attacking blue things and the white things in the white castle! It was hard, but I finally won!

Lines 35, 76, and 1431 all still give the pocketCHIP some trouble for the same reason:
IF (NOT XXX) OR...
needs to be:
IF NOT XXX OR...
after those three lines it is pocketCHIP safe.

Thanks! Yes I do need to complete more games.
I wish I had more tokens for this one just so I could add some achievements like:
- You killed the Nommer
- You killed the white knights before you entered the white castle.
- You stole the chalice without entering the white castle
- You stunned all the ghosts
- You used the red key
- You opened a castle without a key
- You won the game without using a key

Fun game, although I would like a list that shows each item and explains their use, I.E the magnet.

There's not that many items!
KEY - Opens gate of corresponding castle.
YELLOW SWORD - Kills weak enemies, stuns medium enemies.
MAGNET - Pulls closest item frome same screen.
SHIELD - Proof against arrows, at least.
MAGIC FOREST ALTAR - Enchants anything, once!
MAGIC SWORD - Kills anything! Once...
MAGIC MAGNET - Pulls closest item.
MAGIC KEY - Opens any gate.

That duck was camping the blue key I accidently dropped and I had so much stress trying to get it back o_ o
Even though I didn't get very far it's certainly a unique game

How to open the yellow castle without the key? give me a hint, it's not working

I DID IT!

Edit:I WENT FURTHER BEYOND, TELL ME, IS THERE MORE STUFF LIKE THIS?

Wow, well done! If you can do a hardcore keyless run in 7 minutes (and with a time like that, probably swordless too, which I thought about adding) there's probably no more challenges for you. Maybe I made the game too easy. :/c The only thing you might not have found is the Easter egg but that's not difficult, just secret.

I would like a hint, please.
Edit: is this it?

Lookie here

So, how do I get keyless with the new castle?
