Everyone is together!
There are no controls except the pause menu.

This is just an experiment/doodle/whatever. The music took longer than the code
The song used is Canon In D by Pachelbel.

If I am a beginner at programming should I start with Pico 8 or Picotron? And which one is better to use to begin with?

patch 1.1 - fixed some embarrassing small first day bugs

patch 1.2 - made it so the game switches to picotron palette equivalent colors when losing focus, and cards are all dealt instantly when starting the game if "start unfocused" is enabled in the settings for use in the tooltray

patch 1.2.1 - fixed some embarrassing bugs. sorry guys

patch 1.2.2 - i found more even more embarrassing bugs. also the window size fits better with 64x64 widgets now

patch 1.2.3 - MOAR BUGS!!! thanks to soupster for pointing most of these out to me, shadows now dissapear correctly when the game is unfocused, the menu will draw correctly when unfocused (useful for lining tiny solitaire up with your other widgets) colors 16 and 17 now use the picotron palette so your wallpaper wont get messed up, and i also removed pressing middle mouse to reset the game (leftover from development lol)

I'm giving a try to the Genuary 2026 challenge. For each day in 2026, a prompt is given for art using procedural generation. I'm putting all prompts on the cartridge above. You can switch among them using the left and right buttons!

Day 1: One Color, One Shape

A quick one - shapes floating from the left, anti-shapes floating from the right. Up to 120 shapes cross the screen at any one time.

Day 2: The Twelve Principles of Animation

25 min video explaining the concept

New AI!

Bridge of Knights is a simple, turn-based strategy game based on the fictional board game Knights Bridge.

The objective of the game is to push the treasure chest in the center of the board back to the players own territory in their back row, or by pushing their opponents pieces off the edge of the board.

  • Each player takes their turn moving one of 3 pieces on the 7x7 game board.
  • Players may push other pieces or the treasure.
  • Only one piece may be pushed at a time.
  • A piece cannot be pushed back into the space it came from in the previous turn.

A note:
This game was hypothesized in in-game lore, and never developed or tested. It is an awkward, unbalanced game, but there is a tic-tac-toe simplicity about it that may inspire something in the future.
Despite its flaws, Ultima 7 fans can finally say the game exists and is playable! Suggestions and feedback welcome. The AI will continue to get small updates but the game, like chess, is best played against a human opponent.

Changelist -
v1.09 - Implemented reset/exit menu

v1.08 - AI win condition bugfix

v1.07 - 2p controller fix

v1.06 - Major AI update 2 - Challenging but winnable

v1.05 - Major AI update!

v1.04 - stalemate bugfixes

v1.03 - Removed diagonal movement bug, improved AI

v1.02 - Menu cleanup, AI moves treasure correctly, menu and board vfx, art polish

v1.01 - QOL and UI fixes

Happy New Year! πŸŽ‰

I wanted to share a few quick insights about a little project some friends and I have been working on.

We’re building a portable console / mini computer designed to make it easier to teach computers, operating systems, and game development with PICO-8, using affordable custom hardware. We’re still in the early prototyping stage, but the core idea is:

  • Thumb keyboard (PocketCHIP / BlackBerry-style)

  • Digital mouse / pointer

  • Full-size SD card slot for a “cartridge-like” experience

  • Small speaker

  • Special keys + a layer system to switch between gamepad mode and keyboard mode

The goal is a portable, accessible device that can work as a “take-home computer lab” for middle and high school students (and potentially beyond).

This is our first PCB attempt:

Right now the display, keyboard, sound, and mouse are working, but we still have plenty to polish on both the hardware and software sides.

I hopped from using Bazzite to Fedora Linux, but I began to notice something weird when installing Pico8 excutables from itch.io onto my new OS, and that when I double click on them, nothing will happen for a solid minute and then boom, there's the Pico8 boot up in full screen and the game. I have no idea why Fedora has issues running Pico8 games from excutables, seeing as they worked perfectly ans snappy on Bazzite.

Has anyone else seen this before?

@zep, I was using import file.png -l and export file.png -l,
When exporting a label it seems the resulting image makes color black transparent?
I'm on mac 0.2.7. Very minor but seems a bit annoying.

I also tested that maybe it was the first color found in the image? but it seems to just effect black only.

Here's juicio's label for reference:

Thanks in advance 'ろ'
