You've heard of 3D fighting games.
You've heard of 2D fighting games.
Now get ready for... a 1D fighting game!

Very simple and silly 1-dimensional fighting game where the goal is to knock your opponent off the stage. Has singleplayer and multiplayer modes and 5 stages.

Controls:

  • Left/right arrow to move.
  • O (Z) to attack. Weak attack is default; hold up arrow while attacking for a medium attack and down arrow for a strong attack.
  • X to guard.
  • O (Z) while guarding to dash.

I may add more features later on down the line. Enjoy!

Hey guys, I'm back!

And today I've made a quick model showing off a cool fanmade PICO 8 handheld device based off of the Game Boy.

The tools I used are: Aseprite (Texturing) and Blender (Modeling / Rendering) hope you enjoy!

Golath Defense
Defend your walls against waves of monsters using dice, units, and spells.
Roll your dice each turn and spend them on actions.

HOW TO WIN / LOSE

Win: Kill the Chief.
Lose: Let any single wall reach 0 HP.

YOUR WALLS

There are 6 lanes. Each lane has a wall with 6 HP.
Monsters march toward your wall. If one starts its turn in front of a wall it will attack it with d6+attack >= wall hp
If a wall hits 0 HP, the game ends and you lose.

EACH TURN

  1. Roll your 4 dice.
  2. Spend dice on actions (in any order, as many times as you want).
  3. Three monsters are drawn and placed into lanes.

Hi everyone,

I’m happy to share my new PICO‑8 game – Chinese Chess (Xiangqi) with a special twist: Jieqi (Reveal Chess) mode!

🎲 What’s inside?

Classic Chinese Chess rules (Xiangqi)

Jieqi mode – all pieces start facedown, reveal them when you move, and see who’s the first to uncover a devastating cannon or chariot!

Local two‑player battle (hotseat)

Single‑player vs AI opponent – the AI is basic but fun for casual players

🎮 How to play

Move the cursor with arrow keys / D‑pad

Press 🅾️ (O) to select a piece / confirm move

Press ❎ (X) to cancel selection

In Jieqi mode, moving a face‑down piece reveals it automatically (legal moves are shown after reveal)

After a few late nights and some pleading with the LaTeX gods, I've put together a single-page (double-sided) quick reference sheet for Picotron.

Picotron Quick Reference

This obviously isn't going to replace the manual, but it should be enough to help you recall the syntax, or jog your memory if you forget the name of a function. It doesn't include everything; lots of stuff related to userdata, the GUI and event system, etc. is missing. I tried to focus on the things you'd need for "normal" Picotron development.

This is available in both portrait and landscape orientations, A4 and US letter paper sizes, and color and black-and-white. All of these have the same content, although the order of some of the sections is a bit different for the different paper sizes, and the black-and-white variants don't include the palette, for obvious reasons. The portrait variants have a larger margin on the "inner" page edge, so you should be able to hole-punch it for use in a binder or whatever. The margins on these are quite narrow, so not every printer may be able to print them as is (Fit to Page will of course work, at the expense of making the already small text even smaller).

Capture star systems and conquer the galaxy.
Not a 4x game yet, but a nice stepping stone.

Controls

  • arrow keys: move the cursor
  • X: select your system
  • X again: move all units

Rules

  • Capture other systems
  • Don't let your systems be captured

This is a little demo cart made by my son (handle JohnnyTheBug, age 9).

He is very excited to share this to the BBS, and while I have helped him learn, he made this all by himself with no input from anyone!

Hello world! This is my first attempt at a mini-game in PICO-8:
an idle infinite shooter. Can you take out all the enemies?

I always wondered what it would feel like to have a shoot'em up game where the MC has terrible aim. Then why not a stormtrooper?

Trigger warning: in this game you shoot the good guys, but it was meant to be an ironic take that pokes fun at the legendarily bad aim of stormtroopers.
In real life I would side with the rebels!

Story

Rebels are storming the death star. Wounded, you are the last surviving stormtrooper.

It is just you, your blaster gun, against a sea of enemies.

Controls

  • Arrow keys ⬅️⬇️⬆️➡️ to shoot in that general direction
  • Z or 🅾️ to dodge an incoming rebel (once per wave)

Specials

  • X or ❎ to execute Order 66 (A blast will propagate outwards and kill every Jedi)

Power-ups

  • Extra life granted after 50 hits!
  • Order 66 becomes active after 66 kills!

Options available within the menu

  • laserline: draws the path of the last bullet being shot (default: off)
  • pistol: draws a pixel at the pistol location (default: on)
  • shooters: allow rebels to shoot back (default: on, switch off for super easy mode)

ZEN OF PI

"This is not just a Pi game. It's a tool to regain your sanity."

(これは単なる円周率ゲームではない。理性を保つためのツールだ。)

How to play:

Choose the correct next digit of Pi from two options.

One mistake or timeout means Game Over.

Background:

Developed to clear mental noise and focus the mind.

Note:To "clear" this game, you need to memorize 200 digits of Pi.

A little procedural map generation experiment.

Run it for a few minutes and it will (unless it gets stuck) generate a 64x64 tileable tile map that you can scroll around.

It works by scanning the initial map which has an example of different map elements.

It uses it to build a set of rules on which tiles are allowed to fit together, which it uses to randomly generate the map.

You can click on a tile to see the connectivity rules (which other tiles are allowed to connect to each side).

I love this little machine. It can do everything I want it to. The community is super supportive as well. I remember a time when I joined a game jam and said in the group chat I was using PICO-8. Somebody using Unreal said I was on easy mode and I was flabbergasted. Making a game is easy no matter the tools you use. Making a game with an adjective is the hard part. Maybe making a bad game is easy, but you get what I mean. Regardless, I love posting on here and hearing from people. Building little toys to play with, experiences to chew on, or making games with spunk, this thing can do it all for me.

Thank YOU for making PICO what it is. I appreciate your artistic choice and direction with what you make and/or consume on here. I do it for you. I love all you strangers. Viva La PICO!

With love,
The Wall (or Squee)

Generate stereograms for desktop backgrounds or whatever. The effect is intense because of the limited pixel count available.

To see the 3D effect of stereograms, unfocus both eyes until you get double vision in which the patterns overlap. It may take some time to get the first time.

There is guidance in the code comments for how to use.

I'm currently working on a website to publish my own Pico-8 and Picotron made games. I thought it'd be cool to have a little internet space where my friends can easily find my games other than the BBS and Itch.io

Is it ok if I use the Pico-8 font for this project?

A simple 3d tower stacking game where precision is everything. Align moving blocks along alternating axes and drop them at just the right moment to build the tallest tower possible. Any part that doesn’t land perfectly gets sliced off, shrinking your surface area and raising the stakes with every move.
