This is maybe less of a bug report and more of a feature request.

I'm working on several apps that shouldn't be run multi-instance. I want to inform the user if they habitually double-click the .p64 when an instance is already running, and then exit. This is to prevent, for example, multiple copies of the same dock taking up resources.

I've investigated a few approaches, and none seem to be completely reliable:

  • Check /ram/system/processes.pod for another process with the same path: Seems to work fine unless you run a separate copy of the cart (i.e. you're running from your local drive and you double-click the one on bbs://). The issue can be seen in the web player here: https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=153528

  • Check /ram/system/processes.pod for another process with the same or similar filename: Could be flaky and return false-positives or false-negatives. Would have false-positives if someone names their cart similarly, or false-negatives if the user renames the cart that's being checked for.

update with all the new features! enjoy!

-new features & tweaks:

-32bit integer scoring for bigger and better numbers
-nicer explosions with fillp()
-new enemy type with unique attack pattern
-slightly different scoring (better in my opinion) with +score for bullet hits, different small star drop counts & different (and bigger) enemy scores
-bullet fire rate increases as you get more big stars in super mode

relevant for this version only:

-if you get a score over 1000000 then the UI doesn't overlap

Cosmic Clankrs is a tiny, retro-ish shmup with modern-ish features and mechanics

controls:

x to shoot,
z to bomb if you have any big stars

Here is my newest project, Gravitrance.

You play as Earth. (Yes, THAT Earth.)
You can control Earth's gravitational pull. Use gravity to pull in fresh water from space, but beware.. meteors have been spotted nearby. Repel the meteors to prevent them from crashing

Use X to pull objects in
Use O to push objects away.

There are 4 modes to choose from.

Mode A, Earth is stationary in the center of the screen. The only thing you can rely on is your gravity controls.
Mode B and C, Earth moves around the screen, allowing for more dynamic scenarios with the floating objects.

Mode D, you have full control of Earth's movement.

Follow that star and don't forget the sheep!

Controls:

Press ⬆️ once to go from sitting to running. Press again to go faster.
Press ⬇️ once to go back to normal pace. Press again to sit.
Press ⬅️➡️ to turn left or right.
Press 🅾️ (z key) to bark.
Hold ❎ (x key) to display the mini map.

Some Tips:

If you don't know where your sheep are, hold ❎ to check the mini map.

If you feel like you are going to overtake the sheep, just bark. That will push them forward. The best strategy is to cut back and forth behind them to push them forward, barking as needed.

The goal is to get all the sheep into the corral. Once sheep are in the corral, they won't leave.

20 Cells

This is a small Pico-8 application I made over a few days

20 Cells is an interactive recreation of a gif I saw of Rule 30 cellular automata on the Cellular Automata Wikipedia page

As the name suggests, there are only 20 cells in this one due to the width of the Pico-8 screen. There probably could be 30 but I prefer the slightly bigger cell size

The code for this project can be found on my github page

controls:

up/down - increase / decrease the simulation speed

So I've been working on a major, multi-cart project for...well, ages now. It's a hobby, and I do it to have fun, and spare time isn't a resource I have much of. So when I work on my game, progress is typically slow: I need to build up the whole mental model of my codebase, juggle relationships across carts, think deep, and generally pour a lot of focus into the task to make progress.

As the game grew, I was finding it harder and harder to make progress. It took longer to load my context into my head. Each of the inevitable distractions and interruptions of life would cost me more and more context, more and more time as the game grew. As I get older, it gets harder to hold those high levels of focus for long; my mind wanders, my patience wears thin. It was becoming less fun and more frustrating; in recent months, I've barely made any progress at all, and most of that progress has been made on airplane trips where there was literally nothing around to distract me. What had started out as a fun project was becoming, with each additional line and each new cart, more and more frustrating, more and more work to get done. The fun was trickling out the edges.

After a mediocre Christmas haul, Atnas travels North to return his subpar gifts and confront the man responsible. Combines shmup mechanics and endless runner physics. Features:

-Story Mode: 10 stages with two boss fights and a gripping family drama that might just teach you the True Meaning of Christmas.

-Endless Mode: Face endless hordes of Christmas Elves and Ghouls to chase high scores.

-Flexible Difficulty: Choose how many lives you have before each run. Select up to 12 for an easier time, or go down to 1 for a sicko's challenge.

Bug occurred on Safari browser, mobile operating system is iOS 26.1.

When playing a PICO-8 cartridge via BBS webplayer on touchscreens, if I turn to other apps or accidentally lock the screen and re-enter the player but leave the game open, the webplayer's sound will automatically off.

More importantly, after so when entering another cartridge, the sound option will be toggled to off however I've set the button (that can be seen by the upper-left loudspeaker button and the 4 musical notes on startup), and sometimes the key inputs are not fed in. The latter could be temporarily resolved by going to the tablist and back within a sec, but still the input freeze could be a disaster especially on some action games.

A challenging dashless celeste mod with unique theming. Made in 1 month for ccmas 2025. Special thanks to Arumin, Vei, Snek, Petra, and Swordy.

There are 13 berries and no secrets. I wouldn't worry too much about getting 100% on your first playthrough, the berries get pretty hard. First person to beat my 100% PB of 1:47 gets 100 gamer points.

No speed tech required!

PICO POOL:

how to play:

when you run the game, click in the direction you want to hit the ball.

your goal is to get as many balls in in a row as possible

if you run out of hits (you have 3 each level) then you lose

if you get the white ball in one of the holes then you loose

NOTES:

the farther you bring the pointer from the ball, the harder the hit.
after one hit, you cant hit again until the white ball stops.

DISCLAIMERS:

I am only 14, so dont expect it to be that good, im really really bad at pixel art, I did my best

I hope you enjoy :D

I wanted to create something nice looking for the Christmas season. So I created a simple Christmas tree program.

There is no gameplay, it is just there to look nice and maybe be calming.

You can press X to redistribute the ornaments or press Z to toggle between stars and snow.

Feel free to share any feedback and I might improve it.

Holiday string lights for your Picotron desktop! Light on CPU, doesn't obstruct mouse clicks. Launch it again to open the settings dialog which lets you quit the application (may require unsandboxing for this to work).

Inspired by an old Windows 95 program called Holiday Lights.

Season's Greetings!

Inspired by Meep's mods, especially Rosetta and True North.
Some instruments used are from Abledbody and Packbats' instrument packs.

There are secrets, I hope you can find them :)

This is a demo cartridge to show how the "720p scaler" option in Settings.p64 works, as well as showing display bounds for those players using it. Also has the same for those players on a Steam Deck who are scaling Picotron to fill the display's extra vertical space without stretching.
