This is a simple little game I made for a short jam with a theme of "If you can't see it, it doesn't exist".
Decided to keep it simple with a one-button single screen game.
Sporting equipment is coming at you, but it can only hit you if you can see it: Hold (X) to blink while things go through you.
Your score increases while your eyes are open, and will decay if you keep them closed for long.
Things get harder as you reach certain score thresholds - More frequent and varying objects! Harsher score decay (but also faster score increase)!

With the next iteration of my favorite retro PC game of all time (Star Control 2) being released soon, I decided to try and port the melee battle mode to Pico8 as a challenge. I tried to be as high fidelity as I could, utilizing the open source and I think I hit a pretty decent middle ground of what is a recognizable version of the game - with a single token to spare. It features all 25 ships, battle music, sound effects, basic AI for single player, and 2 player support.
Ships were originally 16x16 sprites, but when I tried upping them to 24x24 I thought they really looked good, so unfortunately I ran out of room for several graphics for things like projectiles etc. they are replaced with pixel or line drawing routines. I also didn't have the space to include graphics for things like the x-forms 2 different modes, or the orz's spinning turret (tho they both are functional gameplay wise). The low resolution really limits readibility of the battlefield at min zoom, but the game indeed FEELS like the original.

feel free to just ignore this, putting it on bbs in hopes of embedding it somehow allowing that to use the logged in lex account. update: it does not, but it also doesn't deny it, maybe using slightly diff stuff because its not a .html but it is technically from bbs, but the cookies or whatever isnt stored on there so it doesnt work; won't be asking users for their lex login so won't have that work
for https://bbs.astralsparv.cc/ and the upcoming picotron music service
Recently i have decided to pick up pico 8 again and i decided to remake my smol lil coffee game
do not take this as the pure truth, knowing myself i might never finish this version, if i do so i might remember to post the code.
What i currently have:
this is a picture of the titlescreen, the only thing i have coded in yet, i find it pretty neat but there still are a few things i want to tweak, like the button.
Of course, i will not disband the classic coffee flowing mechanism, do not worry i love that, and i still want to make the game feel the same, just, slap a coat of 128 pixels to make it look nicer, speaking of which...
Planned graphical updates
I plan on
- Adding a paper cup slide off the screen,
- Adding a dedicated throw off animation where the cup just kinda gets yeeted down
- Adding a better feel to sending the orders, like some combo thing or whatever
New build alert!
The enemy is back to being stationary, but I have a working health system for the player, with an updating bar at the bottom UI. I also made the bullets have proper collision so you can kill the enemy or take enough hits until the bike breaks. The fundamental elements are coming together, I feel like soon I can get some real fun stuff happening once I finish creating the base level systems for the gameplay.

Explore caves across the region, collect valuable gems, and escape with your loot before the caves' inhabitants catch you.
Arrow keys to move and navigate menus.
X to swing pickaxe and select/confirm.

This is a basic implementation of the Meta Tile concept to make larger maps in Pico8 and in doing so also gain back the full sprite space.
I am familiar with some of the Big map tools - I really like @pancelor bigmap tool here very easy to use. But I was looking for something that didn't hard require any tools (although could benefit from this) and also wholly embracing the metatile idea.
I provide a demo of this using @Krystman excellent recent Zelda scroll map and movement code which you should check out here. I provide some pros/cons below on process of creation also.
Concept
Store your map in the standard non-overlapping map 128x32 area - but use single tile to represent 4 so a 8x8 map area is a single screen - this data is then read and written out to a new map area with defined metatiles (16x16 tiles). We store the data of what the meta tiles are in the map also and have a simple table/string that defines the representing tile for each metatile.
Hello! Here's a game I made. As usual, I was working on a bigger game for way longer and I got burned out. This is what I made to convince myself I can actually finish things.
It has no title screen, but it does have button prompts, score and music!
The highest score I've seen is 190 dots.
Try and beat me!

A little HTML editor for Picotron.
Features
- Open and edit HTML files
- Copy over Head, Header, Body, or Footers from other files
- [new] Convert embedded pods and icons into images. Note that this feature requires unsandboxing as it needs to save multiple files at once
- [new] User settings to set save paths and choose if Ermine is windowed or tabbed (applies on restart)
Future
I want to keep working on this as I do more and more of my HTML editing in Pictron and I learn more.
Areas I want to explore:
- QOL tag autocomplete
- Optional tag suppression or minor text formatting
Converting embedded pods to images for publishing
Thanks:
Astralsparv for helping me figure out image pods.
goose2point0 for helping me understand

Pico Spades
You find yourself in the final game of a Spades tournament. Do you have what it takes to win and become the all-time Spades Champions?
Ever wanted to play the classic trick-taking card game Spades but you didn't have anyone else to play it with? Well, now you can play it right in your Pico-8 fantasy console with 2 computer opponents and a (mostly competent) computer teammate.
This game is dedicated to my grandmother who passed in February. I have many fond memories of playing Spades with her, my grandfather, and my mom. Turning it into a computer game was a wild ride; I couldn't find any definitive rules that agreed on the specifics, so most of it is based off how I remember playing as a kid. I did my best to juice it up and make it fun and intuitive for anyone who hasn't played the game before. Please let me know if anything isn't clear!

Easily remove processes!
Ever opened a cart from the BBS only to realize you can't close it without using the task manager???
This new widget allows you to easily remove that process with the click of a mouse!
And, you can easily move this widget around your tooltray by dragging that little bar on top!
Credits:
- Art and code created by Daniel Jorgensen
- Transparent interactive pixels and drag code by Picotron's bundled clock.p64
- Kll code (but not deciding what to kll) by Picotron's bundled kll.lua
- Bar design based on Fuzzy Detective Agency by @xietanu
(Unsandboxing required for use. Excludes its own process. Excludes root, wm, and pm. Terms and conditions apply. Anyone know if I'm allowed to type kll?)
