Pico32 is a massive community collaboration with work from over 30 developers in the community! The end product is a single experience made of 32 brand new, polished pico8 games - all brought together by repeating motifs and an underlying story. The concept is inspired by a certain game about an unidentified flying object. Why 32? 32 carts is the maximum number of carts that pico8 will multicart into a single executable.

Former: Demake of the daily puzzle game from NRK
I am a game developer at Norwegian Broadcasting Coorporation and is the game designer behind a game we released in 2024 called Former. It is a daily puzzle game that is enormously popular in Norway and is being played by tens of thousands each day, competing over the best possible score.
This is my personal project, a test to see if I could create a Pico 8 version of the game mechanic. The full game has server side highscores and replays of the best games played etc, so this is a more scaled down version of the game that only runs locally.
The game mechanic is simple: Click one of four shapes (former in Norwegian), and all connected shapes disappear. The goal is to remove all shapes in as few moves as possible. The strategy is finding a balance of removing smaller clusters to create bigger clusters to remove, and trying to keep your chain reactions horizontal. It is a game where you will find more and better solutions the more you play, and each day there is a new board. This version tracks your highscore of today, as well as your daily streak.

Behind the scenes
I am very young, and this game took a very long time to code. I definitely had some highs and lows. One of the lows was that the coding for the upgrades menu took a long time to conquer. I feel that it was the hardest part of making this game. one of the definite highs though, was actually making the ideas FOR the upgrades. I took a lot of time to figure out what upgrades I wanted, and how much they'd cost, so I really like how I did with them.

I have been running into an issue recently with #include.
I have been using Visual Studio Code as an external editor for pico-8. For my last game, this worked largely without issue. However, it has been a while since I last worked on a pico-8 game (about a year, I think?) and now on a new project the #include formatting I was using doesn't work. When I attempt to run the game, I get a runtime error that says "Attempt to call a thread value." Unsure what that could mean, and I haven't been able to find any other cases like this online.
I went back to my old game, which was formatted the same, and to my surprise that also is no longer working, and it gives me the same error. I'm not sure what's going on, did I change something and mess something up? Or is this a newer bug?
I'm working on a Windows 11 machine. Happy to provide more information if helpful, unsure what would be relevant.
The error I'm getting:
