This is a 17-games-in-one collaborative cart. There have been a couple of 16-in-1 jams done before but these tended to be presented as 16 standalone games with a menu screen to pick between them. I wanted to do something that was an homage to Lazy Jones on the C64 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7DyoDJCqac), where you have 16 mini-games but also an overarching 17th game that ties them all together.

There were 16 different developers in 10 countries: UK, USA, Canada, Australia, France, Russia, Hungary, Norway, Finland, Sweden.

Contributors were: @Liquidream @platformalist @p01 @gruber_music @egordorichev @brintown @enargy @viza @MrHodgepants @kometbomb @johanpeitz @2darray @GregosEl @dollarone, plus UncleSporky and... me!

Fly around space collecting crystals to open “anomalies”. Each one will send you to another dimension where a weird challenge will present itself. Do well and your ship will be refuelled accordingly! Try to get through all 16 anomalies before you run out of fuel.

All mini-games run using the arrow keys, plus Z and X on the keyboard (which correspond to the Pico-8’s O and X button prompts by default).

Hope you enjoy it!

Neil

Awesome project!

I would love to see this with everything un-minified, but probably not possible heh.

Thanks! You definitely don't want to see that - trust me :-S

Is there any place where I can see the rules ? Theres a lot of games where I don't know what to do.

Given how little fuel you have it would be nice if there was some way to tell where you can go next, since flying off blindly can very easily spell doom. Maybe a minimap of sorts, an arrow pointing towards the nearest one, or something where you can spend a bit of fuel to either be pointed in a direction or told a nearby sector to visit.

WHY WOULD YOU USE UP? USE A BUTTON!

Wow , a really interesting game, pretty addictive.

@Pordrack thanks! No rules I'm afraid, I did ask everyone to make the games as intuitive as possible. If there's one you're stuck with, let me know and I'll help you out.

@Jusiv thanks for the feedback, I've had other people say the same thing. I brought all the anomalies really close to the start position and they are spawned in a symmetrical pattern. I thought about having a minimap but it would make finding the anomalies too easy - if you just get led to the next one, I might as well have just made the 16 games play one after another. Ideally I wanted some old school gameplay where you have to note down the sectors that contain anomalies, I know it's old fashioned and a bit of a pain but it's an aesthetic choice.

@binarycat I think whichever option I used there would be complaints. I made the shell cart a looooonnng time ago (I had a baby during the jam and had to put it on hold for around 8 months) so it's possible I had a reason for it but I can't remember. Maybe I had ideas for extra features that would require the buttons? Who knows.

@elneil Alright if the positions are consistent then that's not so bad. One thing that did throw me off though is that you start in such a high-numbered sector, because it immediately implies that the map area is going to be fairly large.
Starting around (0,0), (2,2), or even (5,5) instead of (10,10) might help clue people in to the fact they don't need to travel far.

That's a good point. It's a hangover from when I didn't know how big the map was going to be. Next time I get in there I'll take a look, thanks.

Excellent game, tons of varied gameplay.

Some of the games are waaay too harsh on fuel

Can't we now execute multi-games with LOAD and breadcrumbs as seen in JAMS ?

load filename [breadcrumb [param_str]]

Which will execute filename adding the menu option param_str to return to the calling cart.

@elneil These 2 features should be added.
Both are important to new players.

UPDATE: I saw the dev’s replies, pls help with Picothrust.
And also Treasure Hunt is really tight on time.

Playing this again. It really needs a minimap for the galaxy traveling, @elneil. You could have 100% fuel and run out completely exploring a part of space that has no crystals or gates.

@dw817 true

I was thinking how addicting it is to not know what game u will get next. Then I thought: this game should be a launcher option in splore! In other words, each game launched would pick a random pico-8 game from the featured or new list, then kick you back out into space if you beat it or die... like a pico-8 galaxy and each planet is a game.
