Hello everyone,

My name is Nick, but a lot of people know me as Nikkcade, and for 3 or so years now, I've wanted to make my own games.

Today, thanks to generous support and donations from a lot of my twitter friends, against my better judgement, I finally, legally, bought my own copy of PICO-8.

I've messed around with it before, and was really motivated to create, but deep down, I felt ashamed for not actually buying the software like I should have.

It cost me almost all my money, (I'm in a VERY bad financial state rn) but at least I don't have to feel like that anymore.

If I could get any support or tips (I HAVE NEVER CODED ANYTHING IN MY LIFE) on how I can get into this community and make my own games, I'm all ears.

Thanks for welcoming me here. I hope to enjoy my stay.

-Nikkcade

Get you off on the right foot, here's the basic care package:

Pico-8 includes a .TXT file for the instructions, "pico-8.txt"

It comes equipped with a thorough introduction and start into Pico-8 itself.

You can also find a comprehensive fanbase of information HERE:

http://pico-8.wikia.com/wiki/Memory

And an instructional guide HERE:

https://neko250.github.io/pico8-api/

The manual can be found HERE:

.

Me ? I'm dw817, a real veteran at old-school videogames circa 1970-1980, and programming - which, doesn't make my early coding into PICO too popular as I'm quite good at writing spaghetti code.

But, I'm learning. I'm starting to use _INIT(), _DRAW(), and _UPDATE(), now - the standards. And you will too. :)

Hope to see more of you in the community, Nikkcade !

Welcome! Also maybe join the Unofficial PICO-8 Discord if you want to, might be easier to get continuous help in the beginning there.

Welcome, Nick!

It's a long haul, but if you're brand new to programming, you might find Krystman's Let's Make Breakout in PICO-8! tutorial series interesting.

It's meant for people just starting out, and I think he's pretty good at being personable and talking to people on their level.

Oh wow. I had no clue I'd get this warm of a welcome! Thanks everyone!

BTW, Felice, I am going through that series right now!

I look forward to sharing whatever I create with the community!
