Huge thanks to @gruber_music for making a brilliant pico-8 version of the Amiga Magicland Dizzy theme :D

~ About: ~
I wanted there to be a Dizzy game for Pico-8, so now there is! Heads up though; I've tried to be faithful to the classic Dizzy games - that means limited lives, rubbish platforming, cheesy dialogue and a kidnapped damsel.

Obviously this is a fan project and not an official dizzy game, they don't make those anymore :(

~ Changelog: ~
beta1: First Release
beta2: Added music & minor fixes
1.0: Animated water

Don't make official Dizzy games anymore???

How awesomely and delightfully wrong you are!

On phone so can't play your Dizzy just yet but looking forward to it.

Amazing all those memories! I just die a lot jumping since sometimes it jumps far other times near depending on the momentum, unlike the original dizzy.

Anyway congratulations! Very good one.

It's been great fun watching this come together on Twitter, excited to finally play it! Be sure to let us know when there's a shop page for it.

❤️😍❤️ 🥊🥚🥊 ❤️😍❤️

I finished it!

I very much hate that spider to the right of the start. >_<

The clouds seem a bit more forgiving than classic Dizzy games, which is probably a good thing.

The most opaque puzzle was...

...using the black cat...

...to wake Dozy.

But still, well within the bounds of confusing Dizzy puzzles.

I found the acceleration a bit weird, especially the way you jump different distances by taking one or two steps first. But I think without it the rat dodging might be even harder.

Did you play through Fantasy World Dizzy and Magicland dizzy as research? It feels very authentic.

❤️😍❤️ 🥊🥚🥊 Great job!!! 🥊🥚🥊 ❤️😍❤️

... I'm so used to being able to change direction in mid-air. Is this close to the original Dizzy controls?

Thanks for playing and commenting everyone, I really appreciate it!

@mole5000
Psyched to hear I'm wrong about new dizzy games, but I feel like I've heard it before enough times that I'll probably only believe it when I see it :P

@nullzero
I know momentum is a little weird as far as dizzy games go, it's in there for for 2 main reasons;
1) limited tile space & no walking over slopes meant I needed something to mix up jumps a bit
2) I kind of meant to change it earlier but I just got used to it like this and kept it :P

@weeble
yeah for the most part puzzles are pretty... logical? at least compared to the classics, so I figured one that's easier to get just by trying random stuff is fine to balance it out :P
As for research, I watched playthroughs of magicland and treasure island (my faves!) and played wonderland and a little mystery world since they are kind of both recent and also classic?

@dddaaannn
there won't be a shop page or anything for this since it's a fan game. I don't own the IP so this is the extent I can use it. If you wanna support me tho I have other games you can buy/tip ;)
wrt changing direction mid-air, being committed once you press jump has been an important part of dizzy games from the start, to me it didn't really start to feel like dizzy until I had made it work like this :)

Ah of course. I'm not so familiar with Dizzy. :) Somehow didn't notice there are "support" buttons on the free games in your store, glad I can drop stuff in the jar. Thanks for the games and for sharing your process!

Just started playing. This is marvelous. Absolutely marvelous.

Wow really inspiring work! I'm still undecided about that jump control though... :) I agree with your assessment that it is needed to make the game more challenging, but not sure if that makes it ok. ;)

My only suggestion would be to add a puzzle in the opening room that needs to be solved to exit the room. Just something to teach the pickup and give mechanic.

Super nice! I love everything you make. I know of the dizzy games but never played them (until now? :-) Well done! I hope I can achieve this level of polish in my own games.

@gruber_music is awesome - love those chip tunes!

Finally finished the game.
Love the adventure element.
Also, interesting there are many red herring items.
The jumping mechanism added more challenge to the game.

Also, who in the world threw a garbage bag at the end of the beautiful garden, lol.

Back in the day I had the wrong kind of computer to play a Dizzy game, but this is still amazing.

Not just the look, but it handles like an old-timey platformer too. If I didn't know better I'd think I was emulating one of the old games.

Perfect!

Super nice - feels solid and complete. The momentum is both good and bad - it gives it a nice feel when you're in the 'flow' of things but makes it much harder to time non-running jumps etc as you have to acquire momentum first to properly gauge distance. Other than that, this is dope - thank you!

This game is super beautiful!
a great addition to the pico-8 library!

Hi @SophieHoulden, this is a really entertaining game (I'm a huge fan of eggs too haha). Also, check your email!
