Howdy all!!

I am currently taking an aerodynamics class as part of my graduate studies and did my final project for this semester in picotron.

It's a thin-airfoil simulation tool/toy that lets you design an airfoil and see what its properties are using thin-airfoil and lifting-line theory.

You can also use the velocity potential to make some particles move around the airfoil (though this has some flaws that I wasn't able to fix in time and is not physically accurate). The streamFunction code is in there, but I was unable to make function before the deadline.

Most equations are from Anderson's fundamentals of Aerodynamics. I'm currently working on the paper component of this project, and I'll try and link that here once that's complete so anyone can see the equations underlying the toy.

Note that for anything related to velocity potential, streamfunction or particles, the Simulate! button needs to be pressed before it will recalculate (the iterative numerical computation caused a lot of slowdown so this was necessary).

it should go without saying but this is a toy and is not intended for serious engineering work.

I would like to use the entire map (128x128 tiles) but I just noticed that after the 32th row of tiles, sprite from the sprite tabs appears, in an unconsequencial order, and if I use one of those tiles I get weird sprites in the sprites tab too.
I'm pretty sure I never pasted those sprites in the maps, they should only appear in the sprites tab.

Is my file corrupted or something?

How to recreate the file with a blank map section?

I uploaded an example.

UPDATE: Thanks to @Doriencey explanation. Map is in fact 128x64, and the bottom half is shared with the tabs "2" and "3" of the sprites tab. It's weird, but, it is what it is. Pico8 choice.

Coffee Run

Grab a cup and hurry up !

An arcade runner in which you are a lost skier in an endless forest. You need to pick up coffee to keep warm and dodge trees , stumps , snowmen and big snowballs at the same time.

How to play

Controls

Z - to hit

⬅️/➡️ arrows to move

Speed and coffee level

In this game you have speed scale which is accually an indicator of your caffeine lvl. It constantly decreases until it reaches zero, and then your character freezes and falls asleep. To avoid this, pick up cups of coffee by increasing your caffeine level, as well as the speed of the game.

Cart for experimenting with 4-dimensional cubes and spheres. Try with red/blue "3d glasses" if you have them! Also select the "story" option for more info.

About

We are new to Picotron and we wanted to make something small and pretty for this Christmas time, to continue learning Picotron and taking little steps forward before tackling more ambitious projects.

We wish you a Merry Christmas!

Very very early (but addictive) attempt at a 2-player TRON-like lightcycle game. I have kept the code incredibly basic as this will be used in an upcoming workshop at my local hackerspace.

Currently works, player 1 uses left/right arrows, player 2 uses o/x buttons (Z/C on desktop). Game keeps a tally of how many rounds have been won by each player.

Planning to spice up the graphics, add audio/music, and add a few more features.

This will never be a "full" game though as it's still designed to be made by beginners and ultimately let them tweak it into their own "fuller" game.

rewrote enemy collision and added health and damage
adjusted player jump height
changed enemy spawn function to be expandable to other enemies
consolidated some other code into separate functions for ease of use (I think)
added new map area!!!!

oh god I think im ready for some level design
need to do:
player death

Too big for posting as a png, the cartridge is found here: https://github.com/Astralsparv/Distribution_Manager.p64/blob/main/Distribution_manager.p64

picotron-distributions

Adds support for custom distributions into Picotron

To make a custom distribution, simply ensure your boot.lua is named custom_boot.lua and put it into /distributions!

You can generate a distribution based on the active /system by running this program again.

Installing through this also gives you the bios terminal utility, rebooting the system and entering the BIOS.

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my first ever game which I developed for 20 second game jam 2025. I am playing with Pico-8 ever since I discovered it. It is fantastic I really like the retro and all in one development environment. I hope you like this game as well, it is a top-down survival game however you need to type the combos that are shown over the monsters. Thank you for playing it!

Hi, this is a Christmas twist on snake. Collect light bulbs to wrap them around a tree, a reindeer, or an elf. A bulb can be worth 1, 2, or 3 segments at random. Each time you drop off the lights, you must get a longer snake the next time!

This is my first game jam. I had a ton of fun and everyone was super nice. Thanks to everyone for all the feedback and play testing. Also special thanks to my son for help with the artwork!

The base is under attack! Wave after wave of space squids doom the space settlement. It's up to you and your trusty zapper to fend them off for as long as you can. You're the hero in Some People Call Him the Space Cowboy! Keep your phaser charged and your shield online--those squids just keep coming.

back story

I love doodling sprites in Pico-8 and seeing what comes of them. This game started with a cowboy, who became (with a nod to Steve Miller) the Space Cowboy. It was my first attempt at a shoot-em-up. What you see here represents a total redo of the code, after I learned tons from Lazy Devs Academy. There's still a lot I'd like to do with this someday, but perfect is the enemy of good, as they say.

legally this is a sequel to Dust Settlers, a game i made around a year ago, but the gameplay is pretty different! weirdly this was inspired by the same thread of ideas that led to Lil Kobold's Big Stew, but yea just went to a very different place. In SUPER Dust Settlers, you terraform a planet .... by collecting resource cards. It's almost a city builder, but there's a very very light ecological sim that pushes things around some...

UPDATE: redesigned some of the training missions and rewrote some of the mission prompts. No changes to the main game mode or ecology mechanics. Hopefully made some of the core concepts easier to pick up without spoiling the fun of figuring out how the ecology works!
