SOME WOULD SAY IT'S TOO SOON. TO WHICH I SAY... Yeah, yeah it probably is. The original JELPI isn't even technically finished. But hey, I got the deadly spikes to work and made a whole cutscene...

plz tell me if you get to see the ending plz

Haha, this is brilliant! I reached the end in around 5 minutes, and died several times from instinctively trying to use Celeste upwards boosts.

nice use of the go from goal at the start, now that's some clever sprite reuse!

that being said, the controls are way too slidey and bouncy for the controlled gameplay you're going for here. I can't tell you how many times I bounced off of walls into pits, or tried to walk to an edge only to slide off long after I released the key. It's basically impossible to move one pixel.

I beat it, but I did not enjoy it. I'm going to blame the existing controls for that, though.

While this is a very nice derivation, I'd like to agree with innomin - the controls initially aren't "tight enough" to permit complex platformer challenges without causing frustration.

I beat it in a few minutes and had fun! The bounciness is interesting.

Thanks! I'll admit I was seeing how far I could push Zep's JELPI demo with clever re-use of sprites and difficulty, and just like Mario: The Lost Levels it is obnoxiously difficult. hehe.

The forced cutscene at the end is probably my favorite part.

It's pretty awesome but I'm gonna have to echo the controls complaints. They're not nearly tight enough for the challenge to be fun.

I saw the ending. Here it is (if you dare)

Jelpi falls

Am I stupid or can you not get past the first jump? I cant wall jump or anything, so it seems inpossible.

Not impossible. Jump right where it says GO. I myself am no good at these kinds of games but I can make it to the 3rd platform.

I was not able to make the jump on the part you were stuck on @Celeste_Pro, but after like, 95 tries I gave up on the game then like 20 days later I tried the game again and then right as I was gonna give up cuz I had counted about 23 more deaths, but I gave it one more chance. and no I didn't use the thing that @dw817 said, but I got on the edge of the platform, dash-jumped, and held up and got it. And if you ever make it past that part, trust me @Celeste_Pro, it gets harder and harder. Then once you die you regret dying, considering the fact that you don't get a single checkpoint. But every time you get passed another part that takes multiple attempts It gets hardER THAN THAT You see look here:

Sorry I can't show a GIF of me getting my way up there but I am not lying

And I mustn't lie, but when you try to get the point beside the Mushroom thingy, You will have trouble getting back to the platform

And at the end, it starts to corrupt

hey is that thing Jelpi make with is fingers supposed to be peace or rock-n-roll sign?

Is this:

supposed to be one of those? cuz he looks wierd(No offense)

Loved the game! I haven't played a Pico 8 game this challenging, and found it really fun. Hope you make more games like this!

The controlls were most likely rigged with sliding and bouncing off the walls to force the player to better coordinate their jumps and dashes. I found this a fun challenge and thought it made the game better.

zep can you please add some kind of library for pico 8 education edition

i dont have enough money to buy the actual pico 8

also coding is hard

Web browser, favorites list, and copying over LOAD cart # works for like 99% of carts
