This is my latest Pico-8 voxel tech demo! It has a completely homemade voxel engine which you can totally borrow if you want to!
Also, you can (and should) read about the tech side of this project in this terribly long walkthrough!

And I do weekly Pico-8 tech write-ups on that blog now, so bookmark it or something! ;D

This is beautiful even without considering it as a massive technical accomplishment, and your write-up makes it that much more amazing. Unfortunately I should probably put off reading it until the morning but I can't wait! Congratulations on completing this opus :D And thank you for making it all available, and putting the effort into explaining it, too.

(on another note, the link to your walkthrough goes to https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/trasevol.dog/voxelz, which isn't quite right)

This is really great!
Got even better when I realised I should use the compass, instead of just walking aimlessly ;o) #DOH
A fun little game, but far more of an achievement of how PICO-8 can be pushed to the limit.
Congrats on finishing it TRASEVOL_DOG! :D

P.S. - Your write-up is just as fascinating, warts & all - very insightful to the "magic process" you clearly used here! ;o)

Wow! This is wonderful.
The link is broken--it should go to: https://trasevol.dog/2017/06/01/voxelz/

What a wonderful cartridge :-)
Well done, mate!

The first time I played this game, I thought there were some creatures chasing the player, lol.
But yeah, awesome and beautiful scene even with just using multiple circles to build the nature.

Btw, it would be nice to have a way to return to level 2, 3, and 4 after completing the game. Wanted to wander in them while bored.

Amazing. Impressive creation of a 3d rendering system.

I really like the use of round voxels for organic shapes, mixed with square voxels for blocky shapes. That's a really neat simple trick that adds a lot of character.

Awesome, this kinda stuff makes me excited about programming again. Thanks for the inspiration. Out of curiosity, what were the quirky sound effects representing? I thought I was either stepping on something or there was a creature running around, but never saw anything. Haha

Thank you everyone!

@NeithR: You can find back the different zones by walking to them, even after the "end" of the game. Lush area is at south-east, plains with the cabin are at north-east, forest is at north-west and rock area is at south-west!

@gradualgames: The quirky sounds represent creatures running around but you can't see them, they're just ambient sfx. :)

You impress me everytime! This was lovely to play, just seeing what you can do if you are a wizard :D

@TRASEVOL_DOG:
Thank you, found them ;).

This is really fun to run around in and explore!
IDK if it's just me (I saw what you wrote about the sounds)
but the sounds kept scaring me because I wasn't sure what was there and/or was chasing me ;\
that and the

obelisks and the ending
made the game feel almost like a horror game to me, I kept running hoping I wouldn't be caught! :O

Anyways this game is beautiful and it feels very unique.
good job!

I agree with @SmellyFishstiks, it feels a lot like a horror game with all those weird noises going on, but I think the intention was night time ambiance. I found the things (they're not very good at hide and seek) and really enjoyed the game.
