CREDITS

Designed and developed by Vlad-Constantin Comarlau

Thanks @freds72 for the kind words and for the help with the polygon fill technique and optimisations! Looks so much better now (just how I imagined it).

Thanks @SNITAL for play testing the game and giving the first impressions!

Wow! This is amazing!

@Wolfe3D Glad you like it!
This pretty much sums it up:

Impressive!

Impressive feat & excellent design!!

I do hope the total lack of music/sfx is temporary as it takes away a huge part of what a fighting game is!

And I could not resist fixing the polygon gaps, your design is just too good to be distracted by visual artifacts. Reply via BBS or DM me if interested (this version also runs faster than your current line-based method).

I got a weird bug twice in one match with the slow-mo effect.

It's ether the slow-mo time getting stuck in game after a hit (stayed for like a good 6-8 seconds after non lethal hits) or on the left edge of the first stage there is a performance issue. (the enemy was sweating, not me, so it should't be that either).

Impressive feat nonetheless, can't wait for some SFX to spice it up!

Uploaded an improved version.
Thanks @freds72 for the kind words and for the help with the polygon fill technique and optimisations! Looks so much better now (just how I imagined it).

@Achie72 Thanks for noticing it and for the nice words! Will look into it, and will also try to add sounds!

1

I didn’t play this because I’ve never played fighting games

1

Can't believe what people can do in pico 8!

1

@Achie72 Should be fixed now!

1

Epic, I've never seen anything like it!

1

Dude, HOW!?

1

My mind is completely blown. I will have to dig into this to see how you packed all this into a P8 cart.

1

Damn, this is amazing work. Both technically and in the animation.

1

@Mosthumble09 Glad you like it! For the more readable version of the code check my github, HIT8OX.lua

2

This is absolutely bananas. I am fascinated by a brain that sees Pico-8 and thinks, "One-hundred-and-twenty-eight pixels, sixteen colors, severe memory and code size restrictions, running a pared-down subset of Lua? Finally, the perfect platform for the Virtua Fighter clone I've always wanted to make."

Congrats on featured!

1

Thank you🙏!

1

Amazing! Even the screen shake is balanced so the strikes feel like they're making contact without being distracting.

1

Ok, so making a 3D fighting game for Pico-8 is seriously impressive! Hope an update with some sound effects will come at some point.

1

This is the game of all of time

1

THIS. IS. AWESOME.

1

Very cool, the reflects on the floor are impressive.

1

Found ya in random, and my days, this is a good one.
