A boring game:
not very enjoyable,
I'll have to do better next time...
The controls are simple -
you must choose a tool to shoot
Press the Left arrow key to choose Rock.
Press the Up arrow key to choose Paper.
Press the Right arrow key to choose Scissors.
For those unaware of the rules of Rock Paper Scissors -
Rock beats Scissors
Paper beats Rock
Scissors beats Paper
If your choice beats that of the machine, you gain a point.
If the choice of the machine beats yours, the machine gains a point.
The game resets and keeps score after every shoot.
Can you beat the machine?
My first (PICO-8) game!
...and also my first "finished" game ever
It's kind of a clicker game (although you press or hold a button). I tried getting used to PICO-8 itself, the programming language and the different editors with this one.
pls give me some feedback if you like!
This thing is really simplistic and I'm sure many of the "features" could have been programmed more efficiently or done in a smarter way. This is the first time I tried programming something without following a tutorial to a T or giving up halfway through. So please feel free to rip into this one, since I'd love to learn through your feedback!

Cover of Sparks' track Sherlock Holmes off the album Angst In My Pants (1982).
Fade effect was created by dw817.

I'm not sure just how long it takes for this to happen, but twice now I've had PICO-8 open while I put my computer to sleep (for 1+ hours). When I wake my machine, PICO-8 no longer seems to have sound playback and playing back sfx or music in the editors plays back (without sound) at super speed.
The lack of audio and playback speeds are resolved after restarting PICO-8.
I have a screen recording but I don't think the BBS supports uploading it - I can upload elsewhere and share the link if needed!

I'm trying to make a remix of celeste 2: Lani's trek.
The issue is that I have NO IDEA what this map is...
How am I supposed to create the levels?.. I don't understand what is going on...
To anyone who has experience of making a their own version of celeste 2, could you please help me out and tell me how this works?
Thank you.

After lots of looking for a decent portable Pico-8 console that I could code on I settled on a used Pocket C.H.I.P. for a pretty good price. So far I had trouble updating it to take advantage of certain things but I eventually figured out how to update Pico-8. Now I just have to learn how to make use of the big scary terminal and get better at coding Lua!
UPDATE: About a week after I got it, it turned on in my bag and killed itself somehow. It is now just a brick of plastic with a screen. :( The error is with pocket home not launching because some files are gone and since Nextthing.co went bankrupt I don't know where to find replacements. If you have any advice that isn't just reflashing it that would be appreciated because I still am scared of the terminal and don't have a linux computer (other than a steam deck). Also sorry I have been silent for so long I just had a lot going on otherwise and haven't had much time to do this and my other interests. I have been working on a short funny game off and on for all of this time though so hopefully I will post that sometime.
Sonic Blast on Pico 8???
Yes, it is true. While I only expect to get one level done, I believe this would be awesome to see Pico-8 pushed to make a cool little tech demo like this!
Didn't you just take this?
No actually, I made it and uploaded in on an older account, but I made this one as more of a good start to learning Lua code and the community surrounding Pico-8!
Will we see more?
Of course! If people are interested enough, I can post on the regular updates around 1-2 days to let everyone know about my progress.
With those main questions I suspect to hear out of the way:
I NEED YOURE HELP!
If anyone has the time to help me out with music, it would be incredible for this little project of mine to gain attraction. As I am terrible at making music for games.
Hi everyone!
I noticed a weird behavior with the print function in Picotron.
When I call it from inside the _update or _draw functions, the return values are numbers, as expected. However, if I call it from inside the _init function, the return values are nil.
Is this the expected behavior? If so, why does it work like this?
Thanks in advance!
