SnakeLike is a modern interpretation of classic retro game "Snake". Unlike its counterpart, SnakeLike's player controls a snake that can
- Mine different resources with increasing speed for a longer snake
- Strategically sell part or all of these resources
- Buy upgrades using previously sold resources
Let me know what you think and if anything can be improved!
I really like this concept:
Snake games sometimes have terrain in the way but it's always permently there and doesn't add any game play features than; need less food to win and they are annoying..
I like this idea though: I feel like this is the basis for a really fun idea!
In terms of things that I would change; it's not super clear what rocks do.., do they do the same thing as shinies? IDK
Thanks for a feedback and kind words! There is definitely work to be put into the concept, and comments like yours are crucial for improvement to happen!
Here's the sprite map so that we'll be on the same page while discussing it: https://imgur.com/a/MqQKUp0 . The gray ball (x: 3, y: 12) is a single stone, and the gray cylinder (x: 3, y: 10) is a stack of stones (2-10). The difference is purely cosmetic, and when you sell them - they all get converted to gray balls. Shinies (coins, x: 11, y: 10) are just another resource that can be used to buy upgrades in the shop. Different upgrades require different resources, but they are very roughly sketched out so far.
Update: I've edited the announcement above to include sprites and explanations of game mechanics.
Cool game! My only suggestion is that, when playing fullscreen, the black background blends too seamlessly with the black margins of the screen so it's hard to tell where the actual border of the screen is. I'd either change the background color or add little background tiles around the edge of the level so it's clear how far you can go to the edge of the screen.
Overall really fun though!
Nice game, even though I suck so much. I spent about three hours today playing it and I can consistently get to the red-green portal thingies, but usually die soon after. Upgrades are cool, I like how there are four distinct resources that aren't interchangable, it adds to the game's depth. I don't get what the "speed increase" and "keep%" do. If there's a speed-up it's too subtle for me to notice, and I have absolutely no idea what the % is about. Otherwise a great game, definitely one of my favourites!
@olus2000 thank you for kind words!
- Keep% - is how much unsold resources you keep when the snake dies
- Speed Increase - probably has to be replaced by something else. The idea was that the snake's speed gradually increases through the game and this stat is a way to slow it down, but as you said it can already be hard to play so I never ramped up the initial speed increase.
So anyway. Thanks for playing it. I'm really glad that you enjoyed the game! If you feel like posting a rating or comment on its itch.io page - it would mean a world to me.
