I've been using the 64-bit raspberry pi version of pico-8 (0.2.7) on Asahi Linux running on a mac. I exported a game to html using "export index.html" on the pico-8 console, and everything seemed to work, but when attempting to play it (on itch), the game just showed an empty grey screen after the play button was pressed. The browser console printed the error "Uncaught SyntaxError: illegal character U+0000"
I exported the same file using Linux on x86-64, and that worked without issue.
a little racing game created for pico-1k 2026
press x to accelerate and arrows to steer
pass checkpoints to get more time!
see how far you've driven in the top left
the game ends when time runs out
(it keeps counting down after zero, no space left to fix that)
reset the cart to play again on a different track!
update 1: fixed a glitch where one line of the car's gfx wasn't drawn by changing a '109' to '108'. this actually reduced the compressed byte count from 1024 to 1022 bytes
update 2-4: fixed p8.png cover image and label

Cliffside 2 Long!
It's basically just Cliffside 2 and Celeste 2 Long put together!
This took a bit of looking around
(I didn't want to explain all the differences completely, so I put it here…)
just ignore everything after __gfx__
I added zeros to certain areas to replicate what Celeste 2 Long does.
my last minute submission for the 1kb jam

I'd like to share the results of my exploration of the Wave Function Collapse algorithm and its implementation in Pico-8. I hope you'll find it useful.
It took me quite some time to wrap my head around this concept. Of all the resources I came across, the one that helped me the most was an article by Robert Heaton:
https://robertheaton.com/2018/12/17/wavefunction-collapse-algorithm/
If you're new to this, I'd really recommend reading this article first — it explains what the Wave Function Collapse algorithm actually is. In it, the author explains the algorithm using a Simple Tile Model WFC, but he also introduces an Even Simpler Tiled Model (ESTM). That model became the starting point for my own journey toward implementing Wave Function Collapse in Pico-8.
Over time, this initial implementation evolved into three different versions of the algorithm:
- Even Simpler Tile Model (ESTM)
- Simple Tile Model
- Overlap Model
The following sections provide a brief overview of each implementation, along with a link to more detailed walkthrough for ESTM.

Really loving this tool so far. It's even more amazing to see the work others have done. Here's to more bits and boops down the road.
