GREETINGS, EARTHLINGS!
Take me to your leader!!!
My first ever video game is complete. (I hope I haven't broken the rules by heavily editing this post.)
The game happens to be another Pac-Man demake - written using my 8-bit text editor - the EBM System/800 in its Pico-8 Mode that has the P8 colours and special characters.
If there's interest in my game, I can maybe do SUPER MARIO PLAYS MS. PAC-MAN with the four mazes?
You can find my custom text editor, written in C / SDL2,in the BLOG.

SOME POSTS BELOW WERE FROM BEFORE I FINISHED THE GAME!!!

Explore this town and discover its secrets!
Main Objectives: none
Side Quests: finding treasure chests, cutting grass, and talking to everybody! There are plenty of secret interactions and dialogue to discover! Just have fun!
This is the beginning of a bigger project, potentially involving actual questlines and RPG battles. But for now, it's just a cozy exploration game.

I kind of feel like I've appeared out of nowhere with this, for which I apologise.
I will introduce myself. I'm Aiden Smith, I'm more from the publishing industry (editor/writer since 1990s), but I have been obsessed with 8-bit computers since our parents bought us a Vic-20 in 1980. Or certainly since when, on leaving school, I was paid minimum wage to type in numbers printed out on smudgey dot matrix paper... using a keyboard with a metal housing sprayed with industrial beige paint.
Clonky, not clicky.
Actually, this obsession dated back to some years before, when our dad brought home a wood-effect box that, like a domestic space alien, took command over our CRT TV, such that you twiddled one of two plastic knobs, and a fuzzy rectangle slid up and down the screen, mathematically batting about a white oblong the size of a washing machine.
It happens that I am typing this post on an IBM Model-M, BTW.
The EBM System/800 has the feel of a late 1970s/early 1980s computer, like the Commodore Pet, or one of those early 80s industrial or business computers I hammered numbers into - yet with the usability of a modern Windows machine. CTRL-C to copy, etc.

Hey everyone, this is my first game I made in PICO-8. It's a 2D platformer where you have a ghost that mirrors your movement. Hope you enjoy :D

Haven't touched Picotron in a good couple years so I decided to throw something dead simple together to learn what's new.
This just shows your LXO icon, username, and ID! Drag it into your widget area to keep it there :)
As an aside, I'm very excited for LXO's future. It's such an interesting feature and I can't wait to see how this evolves.
UPDATE 1.1:
Now the window can be dragged from anywhere, and the changeable background has been replaced with a transparent one (the changable background was mostly because I had no idea what I was doing lol).

watch the cute little mouse eat their lunch!
press x to generate new lunch themes!
there are 7 different lunch themes to snack on!
update 1.2
added a new lunch theme; the plate!
update 1.1
a new lunch theme is automatically generated once the entire lunch has been snacked on,
allowing the mouse to eat to their hearts content without any player input!
fixed a bug that allowed the background to be eaten in the blue cheese theme

This game was more of proof of concept for myself.
Not really much of a game or something but rather a playground for me to try new ideas and ambitious stuff I wouldn't dare touching otherwise.
I've always wanted to make a flashy and cool cute pico-8 platformer some day and this is a step towards that.
I had fun coming up the level loading system, even though my comments may state otherwise lol.
First time I used the savedata system and I gotta say; It's pretty neat!
This is also the first time I used P8tool for development and it was really nice. Highly recommend it if you prefer having things in seperate carts or lua code in lua files.
One thing I do think was a challenge was the music; that statement in it of itself frustrates me since I just graduated music school. It's very hard to get used to trackers. I only recently started getting the hang of it but my output is nowhere near the same when I am using a DAW like Bitwig or even Pixitone. It has nothing to do with the sound workflow as that is actually the best part of the Pico-8 Suite. No, what makes it hard for me is the lack of intuitive shortcuts and such. I don't mind the sound limitations as Chiptune is one of my first genres i started doing so doing that type of composition is not difficult but in Pico-8, it's like I lose all my motivation.

Fox Fall Adventures: Lava World!
Part of the Fox Fall Adventures collection — also includes Adventure land, Water World and Space Fall!
a side-scrolling platformer where you play as a little
fox trying to reach the flag at the end of each level...
without falling into the lava. Easier said than done. 🦊🌋
WHAT IS IT?
Fox Fall Adventures is a classic jump-and-stomp platformer
with 10 hand-crafted levels of increasing difficulty, plus
an endless CHAOS MODE for when you've had enough sanity in
your life.
Jump over lava, stomp monsters, grab water powers, collect
apples, and try not to get roasted alive.
CONTROLS
Arrow Keys — Move
Z — Jump
X — Shoot water ball (when powered up!)
FEATURES
🏆 10 LEVELS — starts chill, gets spicy fast. Levels 8-10
will test your patience and your reflexes.
👾 MONSTERS — a whole zoo of critters patrol the platforms.
Stomp them from above to score points, or shoot them with
water balls if you've got the power-up. Walk into them
sideways? That's a bad time.
💧 WATER POWER-UP — stomp a special fire chicken to grab
the water ball ability. Press X to fire bouncing water
balls at enemies. It's satisfying.
Treasure — 10 apples hidden across each level. Collect
them all for a big score multiplier on the win screen.
Total across the whole game: 100 apples. Can you get
them all?
🌋 LAVA & HAZARDS — lava on the ground is instant death.
Geysers erupt from the lava floor and spray blobs
upward — they wobble a little so they're not perfectly
predictable. Ground fire vents shoot fireballs into the
air on random timers. Spikes on platforms punish greedy
landings.
🚀 MOVING PLATFORMS — some float between platforms low as
bridges, others hover high above as shortcuts. Speed
increases on later levels.
🐔 SKY CHICKENS — every 30-60 seconds a chicken drifts
down from above. Stomp it for an extra life or a water
power-up. Don't ignore them!
🔥 CHAOS MODE — forget levels. Chaos Mode generates a
random endless gauntlet and throws monsters at you from
the sky every few seconds. Stomp the sky monsters to
turn them into platforms (yes, really). See how many
chaos levels deep you can survive.
DIFFICULTY
Normal mode has a pretty reasonable curve for the first few
levels — good for getting your bearings. By level 8 things
get noticeably busier with more geysers, more ground fires,
more monsters, and more spikes on platforms.
Chaos Mode is just... chaos. You've been warned.
SCORING
+500 — Complete a level / reach the flag
+50 — Stomp a monster or collect an treasure
+5 — Break a block
-100 — Die (ouch)
Final Score = Base Score x Treasure Collected
So if you want a big number on the win screen, hunt those
Treasures!
Ground fireball hitboxes are deliberately tight — you
have to take a pretty direct hit for it to count. Near
misses feel close but fair.
Monsters are placed with proper clearance checks so they
shouldn't spawn inside blocks or on spikes. Each one has
a patrol range calculated from the actual geometry around
it so they don't walk off platforms into the lava.
Sky chickens appear randomly mid-level as a little
risk/reward moment — do you position yourself to stomp
it, or play it safe?
TIPS FOR NEW PLAYERS
→ Don't rush. Take a breath and read the platforms
before you jump.
→ Coyote time is real — you get a few frames after
walking off a ledge to still jump. Use it!
→ If you see a fire chicken in the sky, try to get
under it. Water power makes the later levels WAY
more manageable.
→ You can break blocks by jumping up into them from
below. Sometimes there's a surprise inside.
→ In Chaos Mode: stomp the falling sky monsters ASAP.
They turn into blocks you can use as platforms.
THANKS
Thanks for checking it out! This was a ton of fun to build
and I learned a lot about PICO-8 making it. Would love any
feedback, bug reports, or high scores in the comments. 🙂

A somewhat basic 3d maze template which can be used for projects.
This only uses 992 tokens of code (meaning there's 7,200 tokens spare) and only requires a single sprite slot (slot #1) to set up the map.
This template is provided as is, and can be used and shared for non-commercial uses.
