to have an idea, create a new item in the editor and when you're going to select which kind of item will be (pickup, inventory, prop, monster) select sound.

okay, look, the bbs is pretty much dead all the time, some stuff has been tried to change that but is no use, the bbs is like a secondary forum that people show up from time to time.

zep may change the dates of updates as he pleases, it's not easy to do a scripting on such complex console such a voxatron and he is doing that alone, so stop complaining cause you're not doing a thing okay?

I have no idea how to get his music, its his music he does what he wants with that, but if you just wont listen to reason you may use some youtube converter to mp3 site to get it.

Well, yeah, that's true, he is working on such a big project all by himself, and that's a very big challenge. Now I fell sorry for him. Sorry, I am very impatient now, for some reason. I can wait.

I can sometimes get really annoying.

I'm kind of curious if the entire internal music engine is based off of milky...I was under the impression the audio was synthesized. :p This could have interesting consequences...

But, what does that means?

portals: portals! have you never played portal?

Well, maybe the multiple character thing means that, in some levels, you can choose at the start of the level, a different character, that have different abilities, and can open doors that other characters can't, so, the player you choose, the level changes its end!

Hey, sorry for disappearing for so long. Clearly, things didn't go according to plan -- I've been struggling with a messy codebase since rushing to get 0.3 out with the Mozilla promotion last year, and had to change course to keep ongoing development manageable. I also took the chance to merge the code for pico-8 properly so that the music tools (and other tools later) will be easier to maintain.

As a result I ended up making a lot of progress on pico-8 earlier than expected, and will post more details about it soon. It's another, much smaller 2d fantasy console made from Voxatron components, sharing audio tools (the sound designer is already in Voxatron 0.3.2), a custom version of Lua for scripting, and a text editor for typing scripts in (Voxatron will also use these to make nicer text boxes in general). I'll make a beta available for Voxatron users early so you can practice some Lua scripting for Voxatron carts later on. Eventually you'll be able to include pico-8 carts in side Voxatron carts too! (The screen is 128x128 with a subset of Voxatron's palette)

I realise there's still a lot of buggy stuff in Designer causing problems, but I'm back onto that now and a much more solid and future-looking version of 0.3.3 should be ready next week. (No exact eta for obvious reasons!)

@hseiken The music mixer is my own .xm mixer, but I use MilkyTracker a lot, so try to match Milky's playback as close as possible (which is apparently supposed to be quite faithful to older xm trackers). The pico-8 tracker is much smaller and simpler, with 7 fixed instruments (triangle, square etc.) but you can still do some good things with it music-wise. Anyway, you'll be able to try it out soon :)

Oh, I also fixed the horrible custom music selection scheme. You can now type in ids the same way you would for an emitter etc., but it still gives you a list of the internal music ids to choose from.

I'm halfway through a proper dev diary post #4 (it has been a while and too much stuff happened!) but for now I'll leave you with a WIP room for Voxatron Story:
