Played around with some pixeling, based on the C64 version (by MrSid ).

Maybe someone wants to actually code this thing... :)

Should be possible to compress this to even fewer sprites - then of course, do all the other levels and stuff and the amazing animations...

Wow, this could be amazing.
But yeah, squeezing in all the rotoscoping might be "fun" ;D

Haha, yea, the animations are - well A LOT! Even in the NES-version there's over 120 sprites. But that should be possible to be reduced. Looking at the C64 version and the Atari 2600 version to do this might be the trick.

I did a bit of calculating yesterday and think I can squeeze all the animations to block 1-2, level sprites into the third block and title + end cut scene into block 4.

Not sure on how the level/map data could be done, but I don't think the regular map-editor can be used.

Anyone actually interested in having a go at a Pico 8 version?? :)

For rotoscope-style character graphics.. have you considered vector art?

If that would save space then of course. That's really cool. However, do you save space with that? :)

I would love to see this. As far as I can tell, still hasn't been done for the pico8

this took a while, but a genie granted your wish. So far, all I can show is the teaser

Hopefully it will take 2/3 months of coding
