Myrtle Takes The City

My submission for Toy Box Jam 2019. Thanks to the organizers and content creators for putting together an awesome event!

Myrtle is visiting the big city, and wants to climb city hall! To get in, she needs to collect 7 gems. Maybe there are people in the city who can help?

How to play:
Arrows - walk
action key 1 (x, v) - run
action key 2 (z, c) - jump

There are not fatal hazards in this game, so don't be afraid to walk up to everything.

Feel free to post your best times, for both any % and 100%.

Thanks!
-PBG

Wow, that's impressive! Nice!

It's Hungry Harry ... no ... It's Myrtle. Myrtle the turtle big red circle !

Once again, @paloblancogames, your programming skill is amazing to even begin to attempt a game of this caliber with true 3D navigational graphics.

While I'm not very good at this sort of thing (playing), this game is beyond polished. Very well done. Gold star for you.

@dw817 Thanks for the kind words! I didn't originally mean for it to look SO much like Hungry Harry. The code is actually all brand new, written during the jam. I obviously took the environmental constants from Harry (FOV, camera behavior, etc) but the environment is driven by "block" objects now rather than running off map memory. I had also planned to better animate Myrtle, but I guess a tiny part of my brain just really likes the simple animation of a circle plodding along :)

I hope to eventually clean up the code here enough that people can make their own pseudo-3d games with it. Stay tuned!

FYI the button gylphs in the game are backwards. O is actually jump and X is run, but the sign says otherwise.

Could you post the engine used for both games please

@kittenm4ster ugh, i can never remember those glyphs. I'll get them updated eventually.

@Dogerizer this game and Hungry Harry 3D actually use totally different engines. They look so similar because I use the same environmental values (FOV, draw distance) and some other aesthetic choices.

Sadly, the code for Hungry Harry 3D is a complete dumpster fire and it would be a huge pain for anyone to try and mod it.

I started THIS game with the intention of making an actual reusable 3D engine. I think I got 60% of the way there. It is missing some major components, including an intuitive way to build levels and a way to load them from map memory.

My next project is currently called "Hungry Harry Maker," which will be a complete 3d level editor and a means of saving levels to memory. Stay tuned.

Looks already fun my idea for it would be to be able to change the hunger limit

Its a good game for sure, but it lags when the game is loading
