http://pico-8.wikia.com/wiki/Pico-8_Wikia
For now it's empty, but I hope you could help fill it up with tutorials, useful snippets and other info.
Thanks. What other categories would you like to be added? For now it's tutorials and useful code, but maybe there's something else you want to see?
Maybe we should catalog all of the games onto the wiki.
In a bit of spare time, I could help out.
Games list and versions of each game can change so much, I'm not sure duplicating that information would be useful?
Probably archive finished(lol) games first, then we can worry about unfinished games.
Yeah, finished games should go there only IMO, leave WIPs to the forums.
Cool snippets or common pico "techniques" could go in there too
Bugs.
Memory layout information. Maybe together with bugs in a INFORMATION kind of segment.
Actually I'd sort of like to see an annotated manual with the bugs and more elaborate information in there.
Cool. Will create category right away. How about: Pico-8 information?
That's up to article authors and for some code this just won't work. How would you make gif of compression routine?
I've changed the layout to be more in line with Pico-8's design (as far as Wikia's templating system allows).
I just looked at this. Right now, the Wiki's landing page shows 8 recent activity entries for a game (The Tower of Archos). That's a lot of noise from a single game and I'm not sure it makes for a great landing page. Food for thought.
Sorry, that was me. I was getting used to the editing system!
i think it's more that the front page should be linking to the main categories, so that the recent updates isn't the only thing on it, nothing to appologise for =)
I've added some random tips to the wiki.
I'd strongly recommend more advanced users to put there as much Pico info as possible so it is easier to get started. Would put up some stuff from the zine, but I don't know whether person who created zine and authors of said articles would want it.
I'd love if someone would add quality tutorials to the Wiki, esp. advanced users like AfBu, Pizza, creator of Celeste, Retsyn, etc.
If you don't mind a bit of user feedback, being colour blind, I find it's pretty tough to read the links and headers against that background.
Nice resource though!
I don't know much about wikia. Can individual contributors not change the wiki settings like colors?
darkhog, can you fix the color scheme for the pico-8 wikia? Easiest would be to match the BBS. I think the color issue is big enough to deter adoption.
Great idea, when I first picked up Pico-8 I found it really hard to find information. I will be contributing what I can : )
One thing I'd like to know - is it possible to host PICO8 on my own web page somewhere? Like, use it for content on my site?
Yes! cheeck the manual, in the section ":: Sharing Cartridges / HTML5 Exporter"
Related: felipebueno created this list of Pico-8 resources back in October: https://github.com/felipebueno/awesome-PICO-8
I think the lesson here is every community resource needs multiple admins. :)
Friendly ping. darkhog, can you make me an admin of the wikia you created? (I'm not sure how to reach you outside of the BBS. :) )
OK. Though kinda forgot wikia login. When you were changing that Wiki:Administrators page I've thought you were some hacker or troll so I've might banned you accidentally, will unban (sorry about that if that's the case).
Thanks very much darkhog!
I mostly wanted to darken the background. I've changed it to #303030 to match the BBS, even though it is off-palette. I think it's a big improvement.
Links are still Pico-8 red, about which I have mixed feelings. I tried other on-palette colors and didn't like them: too much of themselves, not enough of a Pico-8 feel. One possibility is to go off-palette again, then try to make up the difference in branding with a Pico-8 icon or something. I'll play with it.
Suggestions welcome. Not trying to take over, just wanting to spruce it up to encourage usefulness and participation.
