Hope you can help. I'm searching, but can't seem to find a solid answer.
I'm trying to find a way to create that ability to walk behind a tree, and in front of a tree, depending on which way you approach it. Does that make sense? Basically, the tree would be displayed in front of the player if they were going down to the tree. Whereas the player would appear in front of the tree if they walked upwards towards it.
I think maybe I have to render the screen in two sections? The stuff above the players x/y position, then the player, then everything below it? But this sounds jolly confusing!
Does anyone have any experience with this? I'd love to get a better moving around situation then I have at the moment where it's really clunky and just stopping dead against any 8x8 object!!!
On a whim, I thought I'd try the dset/dget on PICO-8 after uploading to itch.io.
I got relatively excited, as I noticed after a refresh, the dget did indeed return the previous number saved. I thought I was on to a winner!
But as it turned out (I think) this is more of a local save. Perhaps in a cookie? I tried on a different browser, and the value had not been set.
I was hoping to get a high score table of sorts in itch.io. I figured they may clear their files regularly, but at least it could be there for a while. I think I'm being optimistic !
Anyone have any ideas how I might implement something like this on itch.io?
Long shot, but I got hold of an RG300 handheld the other day. Great fun! Wondering if I can get PICO-8 on it. Seems the RG351 supports it, but not the 300....
Anyone had any success with getting it installed?
Seems I can't get the cursor keys, Home, PgUp, PgDn, End etc to work on my laptop.
It's working for everything else, so "maybe" this is a PICO-8 issue? I've tried a variety of NumLock on, NumLock off, shift key down, Fn key down etc... No luck !
I do think this is something with PICO-8, as all other applications are fine.
I'm using an Acer Aspire 5.
Hope you can help :)
