i guess you can only pick up a box if you are standing on something and water is supposedly bottomless. but if you jump into the water from high up then swim to rise up under the box, eureka! you will be holding it on your head. You can throw it and everything usual. So if its for a level you are making, why not make sure there is a diving board arrangement for when that is neccessary?
Wait! i just tried this, you can get on the crate, jump off it get under it and, eureka! you are carrying it. Might be a bit hard to instruct the player to do that though...
BTW its not very easy to do every time. jumping from higher its easy.
Right, the current rule is that it's not possible to pick something up unless you're standing. Perhaps it makes more sense for water to be a special case though. I don't think anyone has designed levels that rely on this rule one way or the other yet, so it's still up for debate!
