I'm still staying pretty busy here working on something else, but thought I would give this a go using the speed of the mapper to swap pages. See what you think:
That's pretty great! It'd be really interesting to see this approach used for something more involved.
Yeah, that's about it though, @greay.
I mean it would take 2-separate images to be run simultaneously on top of each other in order to get a decent effect. And it would still flicker. Pretty sure there's not enough memory to easily do this in 128x128.
Not unless @zep adds the ability to convert raw memory contents to and from string or array data.
I'm also waiting for him to hopefully add a blend or something which converts a 60fps to 30fps via displaying 2-images on top of each other and blending them neatly despite the colors chosen - without flicker.
Oh, and if anyone was interested (off topic but hey, it's my thread), you cannot use CTRL-V to paste either in ITCH.IO let alone Lexaloffle. I suspect he's blocked it perfectly for any HTML export.
Darnit I hope he changes to allow this feature as it would be a perfect way to share and trade creative game making files like custom maps, music, and sprites via a simple BASE64 to and from 8-bit data in the builder cart.
In the EXE export, of course, the clipboard works nicely and perfectly.

Thought I would post an update. I have since gotten flicker-free (or as flicker-free as it's gonna be) 256-colors. You can find that HERE:
