Although i like voxatron the massive splore makes me dizzy.
I checked .lexaloffle/Voxatron/ in my linux box but i find only pngs.

Those pngs are the carts files.

P#88682 2021-03-08 18:34

As @digitalmonkey said, the pngs are encoded cart files. They are a compact, fancy and efficient way of sharing games/programs.

Thanks.
I removed some carts from folder .lexaloffle/Voxatron/bbs/0|1|2|3|4|5
but still since those file have number names it's not easy to check what i removed and also splore has categories like :
alpha demos , new , featured , work in progress , collaboration , jam . And in some of them i see a 'load more' .
All those seem too many , i cant find them in my dir structure that i post below:

~/.lexaloffle/Voxatron$ tree -L 1

The categories are not stored locally. Most of the time, Splore scans the BBS through your internet connection, and lists the carts it finds. Then, when you want to play a cart, it downloads it into your /BBS folder so that you can play it.

P#88738 2021-03-09 18:48

But the list of cart i see in splore is a lot bigger than the local files in my bbs folder.

P#88785 2021-03-10 12:58

I think these lists are downloaded from the BBS.

P#88794 2021-03-10 15:38

So there is no way to remove those carts ?

P#88795 2021-03-10 16:53

There is no need to delete those carts since they are only shown to you, not downloaded onto local memory.
Think of it as this;
You're on Amazon, looking for a product. Those products are already displayed to you, but because you haven't decided to buy them yet, you don't actually have the item.
It's similar with the BBS, except you don't buy carts.
You can see the carts, so you can find something to play, but the carts are only downloaded to memory when you start playing.

@wallgraffiti thanks for the explanation.

This (look and download) L&D functionality is suitable maybe to a voxatron game developer ,or a voxatron enthusiast but i think its disorienting , messy and risky(for kids) for a casual user that wants to play a couple of mature titles. (also what about the delete button??). I'd like to have control in my computer.

The UI presentation of L&D is cool indeed.But it's heavily bloated and it shoots at it's foot.

Please please please put a simple setting to disable L&D and start with a two three games.

Interestingly i stumbled upon a similar issue a year ago with supertux. It had accessible from the main menu HUNDREDS of levels !!!.
I delete it them but i couldnt disable the functionality!

P#88851 2021-03-11 18:16

still trying..nothing. i ve deleted many files , still hundred of carts available.

P#88924 2021-03-13 17:34

i checked the vox process with lsof i cant see opening any files . i guess all cart loading and execution happens inside vox?

P#88926 2021-03-13 17:39

Unfortunately i am close to deleting it from my desktop. I cant wait any longer. it is uncontrollable.

P#88929 2021-03-13 17:47

Aha... i found sth . i deleted file internal_carts.txt
Now splore is empty as preBingBang universe. Xa!!

And now if a close my internet vox can refresh !! I killed splore's L&D !!
But i killed my internet too!
So now i'll try to download two or three carts only..

P#88930 2021-03-13 17:55 ( Edited 2021-03-13 17:58)

i downloaded a cart and put it in /home/alex/.lexaloffle/Voxatron/carts but splore wont see it. splore is empty.
Does splore needs only those *pip files?

P#88931 2021-03-13 18:06

I’ve asked that in the thread about the 0.3.5 release, there is no way to browse local carts easily for now. We have to load a cart into editor then run.

P#88938 2021-03-13 22:01

As a last touch in linux:
$ cd /home/foouser/.lexaloffle/Voxatron
$ chmod 400 bbs
$ ls -al
dr-------- 4 foosuer foosuer 4096 Μαρ 27 13:43 bbs

And now we can have internent back!! and keep splore on a leash having only ALPHA DEMOS category which are ok games.
Hug arena is one of my favorites.

In the future i wish for the developer to make things more controllable.

P#89671 2021-03-27 11:52

I can't believe how you don't get it...

Just because the carts show up in Splore DOES NOT MEAN IT IS DOWNLOADED ON YOUR COMPUTER! Splore just looks at the BBS and fetches the names, authors and labels of the carts. It does not download the carts themselves. It only downloads the game files when you play the game. Your storage is fine. It is not clogging you hard drive with hundreds of games.

It's like using a shopping catalog. You can see all the things you can buy, their names and pictures and stuff. However, you don't instantly have all of these things teleported to your home, do you?

It's like that in Splore. I hope you understand this time, since your level of misunderstanding is driving me insane.

P#89871 2021-04-02 17:47

Thats funny.. in a strange way.
I think you didnt understand me or didnt readme.

Where did i wrote that my concern is about my data storage?

P#89872 2021-04-02 17:53

Let’s keep cool heads!

The initial message said: the massive splore makes me dizzy.

I can imagine wanting to use voxatron to load and play your own games, and we don’t have a way to avoid splore for now (unlike pico8, where you have multiple ways), so even if you think the person should not do it, there’s no harm in them writing down ways to do it.
