This is my WIP cart for Wandering Magic, a little ys-like action rpg I was working on for #3cjam.

I ran out of time for the Jam deadline, but I tried to submit a playable work-in-progress. It will sort of abruptly end once you complete a specific quest, but the game up to that point should be playable.

O (Z on keyboard) = opens the menu
X (X on keyboard) = use magic attack (if you have it)

The Great Fiend has returned, and you need to stop them before it's too late. Along the way, you fight monsters, meet various people who will help you on your travels.

Walk into enemies to use your melee attack.
Defeating enemies gives you money to buy new items.
If you defeat enough enemies you will level up, which also restores your HP and gradually gives you small stat boosts.
Buy items to increase your attack and defense.
Be ready to use cure potions during battles and save often.
This is a bit more of an RPG than an action game, so evading attacks while important isn't the only key to survival. Boosting your attack/defense and healing is required to progress.

Anyway, I hope to release a more complete version some day, I just ran out of time for this jam. Hope you enjoy!

Yes, I love Ys! This is great, and pretty ambitious. I couldn't figure out where to go after I (minor spoilers)

got the garlic.

Really looking forward to the finished game.

ToyCrab: Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed what you got to play so far. It was fun to try making something in this game style. I hope it was fun and hopefully things were not too grindy. :D

(spoilers)

Ahhh. So the garlic quest. This is a potentially a bit confusing... It won't have any immediate use, there's a place later it will come in handy. For a while, there are rooms of enemies and items to collect, the layout of the world in this is a bit maze-like.

So for now after you get the garlic from the river sage, you should keep going and you'll find a use for it later. You should clear the area outside. If you defeat all the enemies on screen, the barrier will lower. If you clear the room, you can walk on the other side of the river, and you can get an item that should help clear some earlier blocked off rooms.

(/end spoilers)

And yeah, I hope to put more hints and polish in the final game.

It's been a nights-and-weekends project, but it's slowly getting finished! The game just needs some more work to create more levels and fill in the world. The token limit is pretty tight (~1000 tokens left) but I think the main game code is pretty much feature complete. The remaining code space can be used for enemy and quest data now.

Thanks for the help! I was able to reach the end of the demo. It's amazing how much content you've crammed into this cart.

I cannot wait for the release of this game!

Good start. Good level grinding. Maybe have (O) or (X) to speed-up the text like Pokemon and Final Fantasy does.

... and I just completed playing this to the end. WOW ! Very nice Final Fantasy Adventure vibe to it.

Please - continue and finish it !

I like the feel of this game I can't figure out where to go after you reach the knight. But honestly I love this game it's very cute.
