Awesome stuff! The 3D elements really improve the visuals a lot without interfering with the gameplay.

I'm waiting for Chocolate Castle 3000 ;)

Swarm Racer 3000 looks AWESOME

A bit late, but here's my presentation of SR3K at Tokyo Game Show with some new footage:

drool

Where is this? Where should I send all my rolls of pennies to get a copy of this game? SR is the most fun I've had with a racing game since Outrun, and I love how you've expanded on the gameplay in the videos here.

Digging the CC render!
And yeah, Swarm Racer 3000 can't be that far from being completed, can it? :)

I had to reveal SR3K a bit early so that I could enter it in the Tokyo Game show, but it's actually pretty unfinished and far down my list. It's going to have a nice track designer, a decent number of tracks & new elements, so I promise it will be worth the wait! I have other projects nearing completion though.. Voxatron (see other thread) and Super Neko are looking good for this year.

That looks great. Lasers and the implied ability to actually lose is really cool. I look forward to playing :) .

Yeah, losing is fun

Wow, that looks superb! The new mechanics look like a ton of fun!
You've got some awesome projects goin' on :DD

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I was wondering about the incredible rockin' tunes in the original Swarm Racer: I can't seem to find them on the musician's website. Are they not available outside of the game?

Good question. I don't know if the song was released separately, but you can find it on this music disk (Emerald Box):

track 7: Dance Funkcya
It's for Windows, but it works well under Wine.

Otherwise there is an Impulse Tracker version you can find in the Mac version's zip:
Swarm Racer.app/Contents/MacOS/vn-dans.it

You can use VLC or Schism Tracker to play it.

At the end of the interview, someone asks if you can control the individual triangles. I think would add a lot of diversity to the game if you could apply different behaviors to the swarm to accomplish tasks.

For example, usually the swarm glides around obstacles. If you wanted to destroy an obstacle, the triangles could individually shoot at it and then return (like a machine gun). The more triangles you have, the faster the gun would shoot. If your swarms were in a circle, they would attack from all sides; if they were coming from a pinpoint, they would attack in one direction.

Another option would be for the swarms to move in a sine wave, for the purpose of widening paths to allow objects through, or acting as a conveyor in an environment with gravity.

Also, it would be cool if the swarms could form tornadoes to suck objects in, or some kind of vacuum to spit objects out.

Swarm racer seems to be as much a puzzle game as it is a racing game. These features could help make it more puzzly. And more varied enemies along with a way to replenish triangles could make it more actiony. Do you like any of these suggestions?

Any more word on this?
