Description

You are the new sherrif in town, and due to budget cuts, they sadly cant afford to give you a gun, so you'll have to do with a sling and the rocks you can find. Shoot yourself through hordes of outlaws whilst trying to be as economical as possible!

Aight, i've been doing some work on a game now, and this is the first version of it!
There is no music as i am an incompetent developer, but that shouldnt be too bad, right?

The game is about you being a sheriff with a rock slinger, and your goal is just to defeat massive amounts of criminals.
The game is theoretically impossible to beat but sooner or later you should hit some limits like ram etc.

  • This is an in-development version of the game. There are most likely around twenty-nine various ways just to crash it.
  • The 5 corrupted cowboys and their boss have been reworked
  • Reworked the entire game from the ground up
    This is, as I said, an in-dev update. I am looking for feedback on the existing stuff before I start to really branch out. Something feels off, you see :)

This is a great start! I had fun playing. The thing that really hooked me was setting up combos, trying to whack multiple outlaws with one rock. That, to me, is where the gold in your game is, so you should emphasize the heck out of that - combo multipliers, bigger shake when you hit a combo, wacky combo sound effects, etc. Just amp up the rewards for a multi-hit combo and people will want to see how big they can go.

Otherwise, maybe some different sprites for the outlaws (even just black hats?) would be cool, and maybe even different outlaw types (like a guy on a horse who's faster but less maneuverable or something) and some environmental bits (cactus, tumbleweeds that blow through, etc.) But I think you're onto something fun here, so keep at it!

The different enemy speeds make such a difference! Now you have to think more about positioning instead of just camping out and firing. This is coming along nicely!

I managed to get a score of 75, @khhs. When I first started playing this I thought the angle the rock is at is the angle it would be launched.

No, it is about 90 degrees additional counter-clockwise, correct angle for a human to be flinging. And that's not easy for the brain to do.

Superb action game, multiple and different personalities to enemies. All in all a gold star game. Well done !

A fun addictive arcade style game. I love it! It presents an interesting strategy choice: Wait for more enemies to get multipliers and risk being swarmed? Or play it safe at the cost of speed? Keep up the good work! As for music, look at Gruber's stuff, you could take something from there https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?uid=11292

Also some ideas:
Powerups. Such as faster rocks or rock regeneration, spread of rocks, bigger rocks, briefly freeze all enemies etc. Also, an enemy that shoots projectiles would also be cool.

So, i am now working on a new feature, i am unsure of how well it will work, so it might not make it. This gif will be the teaser for now!

If it seems like a good idea (from what you've seen), i might release a dev build with a link. Currently letting a person playtest, and we'll see how the feedback seems.

Powerups are still in the "hmm" phase btw, thinking about them and how they'll fit.

Is the rock actually traveling faster? or is just the spinning increased? The quick spin probably isn't great because it makes aiming a lot more erratic.
Also, perhaps power-ups could be a separate mode if you feel they don't quite fit with the vanilla game. I'm interested to see where you take this. Keep tinkering!

Also as a side note, have you considered my other suggestion, an enemy that shoots projectiles? I personally think it would fit well with the overall flavor and gameplay.

FYI The rancher is just me testing enemies with special abilities, if it is a well received enemy i'll keep it and make a new one with a gun, otherwise i'll make the rancher a gunner.

Lets go!
I think i'll do a couple more updates before releasing 2.0.
My idea of 2.0 is for that to be like, a finished version of the game, with all things in place! Hopefully i can write together a port for android and IOS as well, although IOS ports might not be possible as of right now due to, well, technical limitations.
Other than that, i hope everyone liked the new enemies, and patches are always possible if something isnt as good as it can be!

The new enemies are amazing! I love them! I think the one thing I'd change/balance is the boss. It's not really fun to have an enemy that barrels out of nowhere and kills you. Probably either make it slightly slower than the player or make it dash in short spurts so you can get some breathing room. Seriously though, great job so far.
