Hello all
New here.
I just started with PICO-8 and learning LUA 2 days ago.
I made a demo of Mars defender... Code needs cleanup and I'm not finished yet but it works pretty well for the time being.
Hope you like it! :)
UPDATE 04.03.2022: Release version 0.9. Changed year (yep we're indeed in 2022 :D) and created an endboss. Fixed various bits and bugs. Game is small with only 5 but I don't see the point in going for 100 waves.
UPDATE 24.02.2022: Changed the name. A few tweaks and bugfixes, faster response, graphics and particle explosions.
Worked on various game mechanics, player energy and collision, AI for the Aliens etc.
Pretty good, @MartinK. We can always learn from the masters.
Here is the original in action:

And here is the 4k version for the Atari 2600:
@dw817 Thanks!
Yeah, the old defender are amazing... the 4k version is impressive. I have defender on cart for the c64 and I also play Guardian which is a better Defender clone. I used alot of artistic freedom in mine and if I have the time I will enhance the gameplay. I'm also inspired by the controls/feel in Virus (from David Braben).
Your controls are very floaty, @MartinK. I really like them the way you did this, easy for me to navigate, yet I know the original Defender has greater response.
And Defender has been approached by other Piconians, found HERE:

We can always learn new methods and coding techniques by looking at others.
They look great! I had no idea others had made these ports, I searched for defender on this site and got nothing. I have planned to make my version a sort of spinoff, the title will change once I come up with something better. Thanks for the feedback on controls, I will look into making a better response.
