This is an early pre-alpha work-in-progress build of the minimal game loop

You have been summoned to make an appearance at court before noon and pay a fine for the crime of skateboarding. Except you don’t have any money and noon is only a couple of minutes away! Skateboard around the city gathering as much loose change as you can find and make it to the courthouse in time.

Controls: Move the bird with d-pad, jump the bike with x

How to play:
Collect as many letters as possible with the bird.
Avoid running into rocks in the road as the bike.
Hitting an obstacle with the bike will cause it to become unsteady and slow down.
If the bike slows down too far it will fall over and end the run.
Land the bird on the bike to return it to normal.
The bike cannot jump while the bird is sitting on it.
Hitting an obstacle while unsteady will cause the run to end.
If the bird is pushed off-screen too far to the left, the run will end.

Goal: get the highest score for letters/distance travelled.

I've worked really hard on the art for this game, but it's the gameplay I'm not too confident with at this point. I would appreciate any and all feedback regarding the game feel and difficulty level, or anything else you think could be improved upon.



  • fixed a bug with the jumping mechanic where the bike was not jumping to its full height each time.


  • re-balanced the rock speed increase over time
  • adjusted the bird move speed


  • removed debug text (oops)


  • changed jump button behaviour to no longer continue jumping when held down


  • Added an intro 'cutscene' animation


  • added new obstacle variations for the bike
  • added some better UI
  • improved the opening sequence
  • named the game (still open to changing this)


  • added a new mechanic - Hitting an obstacle with the bike will cause it to become unsteady and unable to jump. Touch it with the bird to return it to normal. Hitting an obstacle while unsteady will cause the game to end.
  • added a new larger lantern variation that spawns with increasing frequency the further you travel


  • updated animation for bike wobble
  • added new animation for when the bird has landed on the bike
  • reduced the top speed of the letters moving


  • added some particle effects! (oooh ahhh)


  • changed the game rules
  • the bike can now jump again while unsteady but loses speed in this state
  • if the bike's speed gets too low it will fall over and end the run
  • the bird can still land on the bike to stabilise it and will restore the speed of the bike once it takes off again
  • hitting an obstacle while in the unstable state will still end the run


  • added a scoreboard that displays your distance travelled, number of letters collected, and the percentage of letters collected. Also shows if your score is higher than a previous score this session. (saving these between sessions is something I still need to add)


  • fixed a calculation error with the percentage on the scoreboard
  • increased maximum speed to add some additional challenge


  • fixed the issue with bird and lantern collision where the bird could get stuck inside a lantern and unable to move.


  • added scoreboards for best distances and times
  • best scores now save between sessions

arrow key left and right = move
x = shoot/select
o = fire special weapon/re-roll shop
arrow key up and down = adjust turret shot angle

*requires owning the upgrade from the store.
