Story of the Mirror

This is a short horror game that I developed for DarkTober Game Jam 2018 using the Pico-8 fantasy console. This game is not suited for children or those who are easily disturbed.

Controls:

  • Directional keys: move around

  • Z: read stone tablets, talk to npc's

Objective:

The objective of this game is to find the old mirror, locate the dark path and get the orbs of light. This will require navigating 3 different worlds of increasing tension and horror.

Tips:

  • Enemies will spawn in the dark world. The more orbs of light you collect, the more enemies will try to drag you to a shadowy grave, trapping you within the darkness of the mirror forever.

Laser Blast! 2: The Fight

Description: This sci-fi themed platformer is the sequel to Laser Blast!, a game jam game I developed for Proc Jam 2018. Play as the advanced robot Atom Girl and progress through a platforming level, defeating enemy forces along the way. Destroy the end boss to complete Atom Girl's mission and buy her time to repair herself so that she can escape the planet Garlock-7, where a hostile force has taken over.

Controls:

Left and right keys - Move left and right, respectively

Up key - Jump or perform a midair jump. If you hold jump after jumping, a second jump will be performed at about the apex of the first jump

'Z' key - Shoot a small energy ball. Holding the key down will charge Atom Girl's weapon. Release to shoot a level 2 or 3 shot, based on charge time.

Tips:

  • You have some temporary invincibility after taking a hit. Use it to your advantage!
  • All enemy attacks deal the same amount of damage.
  • A level 1 charge shot hurts enemies for 1 damage, while level 2 is 2 damage and level 3 is 4 damage.
  • If a level 2 or 3 shot kills an enemy, it will pierce the enemy and keep going. Level 1 shots never pierce.
  • The boss at the end of the level speeds its attacks up substantially after losing half its life. Don't be afraid to hammer it with hits if you can't dodge its attacks well. It does not have an invincibility period after being hit.
  • Killing enemies gives you a 25% chance to get 1 health back.
  • The humanoid enemies can turn around. They also shoot less often than the turrets but take less time to shoot you once they appear on screen.

This is a short horror game that I developed for Fantasy Console Game Jam #3 using the Pico-8 fantasy console. This game is not suited for children or those who are easily disturbed.

Controls:

  • Directional keys: move around

  • Z: progress through menus

Objective:

The objective of this game is to move around a desolated town and touch certain magic pillars. When you touch the pillars (it's a little finicky, so try to move around them a bit), a streetlight will come on near a lighthouse to signify your progress. You must light all six streetlights, at which point the lighthouse will light up. Touch the light of the lighthouse to complete the game.

Tips:

  • Enemies will spawn in after lighting a few streetlights, so do your best to avoid them, as one touch will kill you.

  • A pillar is only good to touch if green runes adorn its entire surface and it's only three blocks tall. Other pillars are there to distract you.

  • Fog will come into the game after the first minute, obscuring the screen and making your journey more difficult. The fog will grow worse the farther into the game you get.

  • You can walk behind pillars, trees, etc. Only their bases can obstruct your (or an enemy's) movement.
