my friend is making some music for me in pico8 and they noticed three rly useful things missing (unless we just can't find them?)
- some way to duplicate patterns - select/copy/paste would be good
- a way to insert notes and push existing ones down, rather than overwrite
- a way to play notes freely without writing into the pattern (for sounding out things)
you can do it by opening the cart with a text editor and selecting/copying/pasting the appropriate lines.
Hi
This feature would be great indeed. It would greatly ease the music composition
These things are all listed for inclusion, but I don't have an eta yet. I think moving whole patterns around within and between cartridges is probably the most urgent though so will see if I can get a rough solution in for 0.1.4
No hassle. Just supporting the interest. Thanks for such a wonderful job.
Talking about the music editor, I have a few requests as well:
1/ like OP, being able to push notes down, but also up (just use insert and delete keys). And if we keep the key pressed, continue to delete (using the system's repetition settings). And also for the order list (for all the patterns), we may want to insert, delete items without replacing everything.
2/ the backspace key delete one note, but it stays in place. It means if we want to delete say 20 notes, we have to type backspace, then down, then backspace again, down again, 20 times. If we could just keep the backspace key pressed, and/or select then delete the notes, it would be easier
3/ The mouse wheel works in most editors, but not in the music editor (tracker mode). It'd be nice to be able to scroll in the patterns with the mouse wheel.
4/ I'd like to be able to go at the bottom of a track with the "end" key, and at the top with the "begin" key.
I also have a few bugs in the tracker, for example I can select a sound and it doesn't sound like expected. Or I type a note on the lower part of the keyboard (D2), then the note one octave above (D3), and they sound exactly the same (but it's correct on replay)
If I save and restart pico8, then it will sound correct during edition, but not always. It seems it always work in the sound fx editor (where you can edit only one track), but it's less reliable in the music editor, with several tracks.
