I have a thought...
Maybe scale the value of coins (maybe palette swapping them too) based on the number of balls on the screen. This would encourage people to try riskier and riskier situations even when they have a bomb to clear some of the balls.
An alternative would be to scale the value up each time a coin is picked up, but reset the value to default when a bomb is used. Again, this encourages people to push their luck with multiple balls on screen.
A mechanic you could add on top of this would be to have the default value increase under certain conditions, so that you could use your bombs without losing all of your score progression. Sort of like a value checkpoint--once you get to a 5x bonus you don't fall lower than that, and then at 20x and 50x and so on. Something like that.
