Snes arguably has a better dpad but I totally agree. Old nintendo controllers are the bomb

check out these!

i was going to buy a couple the Nes style ones but settled for SNES style instead to keep them compatible with emulators and because some pico-8 games (pinball games) will like to be played with shoulder buttons.

i've also ordered one of these

it's bluetooth only though

they should arrive sometime next week, i'll post some pictures :)

I have something like the mini 8bitdo, but cheap and cheerful. There's a thread on it here https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=2346

I also have the SNES/SFC 8bitdo controller, which is damned good.

I also have a Horipad Ultimate MFi controller:

But I mainly use keys, until I can play pico8 on an actual console.

I use this controller https://www.amazon.com/Buffalo-Classic-USB-Gamepad-PC/dp/B002B9XB0E
It works very well on Linux (Raspberry Pi), OS X and Windows.
I'll test it on PocketCHIP soon.

I bought the 8bitdo controller, but I cannot get it to communicate with Pico-8 on OSX as of yet. My Xbox 360 controller works automatically, but only the first player.

I have not been able to get a controller connect as a second player yet.

For 8bitdo controllers you have to put it in the correct mode and probably map the buttons to keys using http://www.8bitdo.com/xpad.html or https://vividmachine.com/controllers/ (my favourite) or similar.

Only certain modes will report it as a gamepad.

I could only get my 8bitdo SNES/SFC30 to register as an SDL-compliant controller over USB cable. Over Bluetooth it registers as a sort of non-compliant gamepad that SDL does not see, so I just map the buttons to key presses as that's easier than figuring out what is actually going on.

I'm using JoyToKey for my NES controller on Windows. And probably goes without saying, I have a USB adapter as well.

Does anyone know how well 8bitdo pro 2 works? Thinking of buying to have something with a better placed d-pad then the controllers i have right now. Is it compatible from the start or do you need something like joytokey?

We should push a company to produce it.
