Produce Market Starring Donny Quack

Donny Quack is all out of bucks! His nephews wont let up on having their very own playground. Luckily a position has become available at the local Produce Market.

Your job at the market challenges you to catch products thrown off the market truck, then sort it into bins. Each bin is marked, showing which variety of product belongs there. You'll be paid for each product you catch and correctly sort.

Arcade mode

Timed mode

Controls

X/O: Drop produce
Arrow Keys: Move
Enter/P: Menu/Reset highscore

Move Donny Left or Right to catch the falling produce, once caught move to the desired produce bin and press X or O to drop.

Whilst at the main menu press O for in game instructions.

Gameplay

Main objective is to earn as many "Bucks" as possible for a high score, there are two modes of play to choose from.

Arcade Mode:

If you place produce in the incorrect produce bin, Donny will get angry and you will lose a life. Fail to catch falling produce will also result in a life lost.

Timed Mode:

Save time by sorting produce correctly and efficiently, for a potential time extension. Drop produce or sort in the wrong produce bin will cause Donny to get angry and waste time.

Thanks for playing. Also please forgive my messy code this is a first to program a complete game.

Such a fun game, gonna share it with my kid later. The graphics are awesome. Not as easy as it looks. I made it to 12 bucks. :)

Thank you so much! I spent quite a few late nights on it and a bit OCD on graphics XD

Congrats on release! It came out great and you did an amazing job with the graphics!

Thank you for the time you took to respond to me ridgek and assist with state machines, that really got me over the line with Donny catching and dropping and so on! Appreciate it

Donald Duck's Playground is one of my favourite childhood videogames! I really like how you have revamped the graphics and added some modern QOL improvements. In this level, I do miss his funny grumbling when you make a mistake.

Looking forward to you recreating the rest of the game!

Yep also one of mine as a kid through the 80’s on c64, had such a great time playing it. Which just felt like a great way to learn coding games and pico8 to see how far I could go.

Glad you enjoyed it. I have got ideas to better the game in its current state, would love to expand on it.

Aaah after so many years, I got to replay this game again. Though this one is not as good as the original.
I've said so cause in the original, there's small delay for Donny to position himself after he puts a fruit in a box. The small delay is needed in case he puts fruit on left box then get a fruit tossed very low that he needs to rush to right box. This version doesn't have that delay and I had to lose couple hearts because of it.
Nonetheless, thanks for finding the game from my childhood.

A simple but amusing game. I love that when you have caught a fruit, the game waits before throwing the next one. The artwork is also very well done.

I saw your cart making process on reddit. Congratulations on finishing it!🎉

Hey Bloodbane, yeh I totally get it. I guess I found with delay the game was too slow paced and no challenge at all, you could essentially go for days and not lose a life. So I left this version in a very unforgiving state. This cart was always going to be a derivative to the original in many ways and although tried to capture the original essence, I moved away from the educational aspect and more for a faster paced arcade style. Wanted it to be more but I just don't have game coding skills like most and just made it up along the way. Perhaps in future I can add an easy/classic mode with delay to replicate the original more. Thanks for the feedback!

thesailor - Thank you, yep pretty simple, try the Time Mode as that can be more of a challenge and see if you can extend the timer!

shiftalow - Thanks so much, although I ended up not using your Parabola code in the end. Your assistance with that aspect at the time really helped me a lot with how many things work relating to functions/sin/cos/tan and coding in general, appreciate your time in the past.
