Tomb Boom

A Hardcore Platformer

My first ever actually released game. Tomb Boom is a (hopefully) challenging platformer about navigating a graveyard by using exploding bombs to get to new heights.

This game was built as part of a self-imposed game jam in which I tried to make the best finished product I could in a week (plus a day or two of watching youtube videos to learn lua - I have only made games in c#/xna in the past).

This is also the first time I've had to make my own sprites, tileset, and sfx from scratch, which was a fun challenge.

Hope you have fun, feel free to send me your times (with or without collecting all the skulls!)

CONTROLS:

ARROWS - Move
Z - Jump (Hold to jump higher!)
X - Drop Bomb / Detonate Active Bomb
X + ARROWS - Throw Bomb

EDIT 06-08-2025: Thank you folks so much for all the positive comments, discord messages, and ratings. I have uploaded a bug patch to fix a few small issues. This will likely be the last update to this cart, as I am working on something new! Good luck and have fun!

I ended up getting soft-locked, but it was fun and I might try again later :)

@Verb should be soft lock free now, good luck!

The very last thing I was working on was actually adding a quick "reload level" button to the menu, without messing with the timer and skull count. I gave up on it because my soft deadline was coming and figured you could always just die to reload - guess I should have finished it!

That is tough as nails - I could only get to level 3.

Its a nice idea and the cart looks and sounds great. An incredible achievement to do in a week!

this is really cool! my only problem is that I'm not used to platformers that are so slippery 🙈


@Timm haha, I was playing some old mario for inspiration which can be a bit slippery at times as well (not to this extent), that probably worked its way into the controls a bit!

Really liked the bomb physics and bouncing them off the walls :) finished world 1! that was challenging great game.

Had a blast with the game!

I'm so glad we talked about the movement a bit because to me it feels night and day! Looking forward to the eventual continuation if you get there! 48:41 and 108 deaths... it was a journey


@Achie72 So cool to see someone playing my game on stream - thanks for all your feedback and help in polishing it up! I'm definitely going to be revisiting this one, perhaps a sequel once my new project is finished. I'll definitely be reaching out for more playtesting, if you're up for it!


Always down to help, it just might take some time due to IRL + streaming stuff.
