I love Hanafuda and I'm making a version in #pico8

And then made sure it will all fit on a single screen in this mock-up:

on hold until after Playdate Hanafuda is released

There are many many versions of this on the old 8-bit Nintendo. I never knew what it was until I saw your cards and the arrangement of them.

I hope you'll explain the rules of play as it looks like a great card game !

Rules of play and the various hands you can collect are displayed on the attract loop or help menu.

Your cards are beautiful! I started to make some Hanafuda cards in Pico-8 as well. I hope your project goes well! I'm a LUA noob, too.

Update: Playdate Hanafuda will come first which means pico8 Hanafuda will be released afterwards.

Are you developing Playdate Hanafuda or is it out of respect of the Playdate devs that you are delaying release? Big fan either way
