How to play

  • Fire regular weapon with X, EX weapon with O
  • Touch an enemy projectile to activate the shield
  • Collect enemy projectiles while the shield is up to power up, chain kill enemies to extend shield duration
  • Once the shield runs out you are in danger, avoid projectiles until the shield reboots
  • As long as the shield is active the multiplier goes up, enabling higher scores and more damage output (missing cuts the next multiplier activation in half)
  • Lasers will drain your shield
  • After every time you defeat the boss enemies will become stronger and new stage layouts and enemies are introduced

Changelog:

  • Added a simple rank system
  • Added lasers. They don't decrease shield time like they should yet but kill in neutral/danger. Auto aiming for now, but most will be static like they should be, the enemy using them is also placeholder for now
  • Changed enemy bulettes and shield to use blue/gold depending on being at max level like in the game proper
  • Added some big assplosions for the boss
  • Changed how homing missiles work: Tag an enemy (that is not a zako) with the main shot to get missiles homing on it
  • Moved the boss health bar to the top of the screen
  • Slightly more varied explosions, proper colors for bullets exploding
  • The Wilson were not animating! This could not stand, of course
  • Multiplier is saved after a shield chain, picking up were it left off when activating the shield again
  • Starting power level set to 2 for now
  • Loads of cosmetic changes while getting to know pico8 a bit better

That boss is impressive! I liked the effects a lot. Looking forward to playing this again.

good starting point - may need some tweaks:

  • barrage of 6 ‘triangle’ enemies is very difficult to pass
  • boss fight is not fun (too much hp / uninteresting bullet pattern)
