I'm enjoying this game, but not quite understanding the significance of the left most card on the lane. Spending resources on it gives it plus marks, but I can't discern if those plus marks do anything...it feels like I'm missing something important here...otherwise, this game is pretty fun, but very challenging. It's taking forever to beat the second boss (dracula), but I'm definitely enjoying losing!

@hseiken The plus marks are an indication to how many you have bought of it. After the plus signs has been filled, it will stop giving you the golden guard and instead function like any other card in the middle Lane. This is to stop you from buying the same card but also to mix it up more! Thanks for the feedback and happy that you like it ☺️

In the past, that bug seemed to happen when a game ended with an empty deck (because there were less than 5 cards remaining) - I remember specifically playing it after the new update and seeing the deck refill correctly, so I don't know what happened this time.
For what it's worth, hitting F9 right after seeing the empty deck sometimes captures what the board state was right before the game ended in the GIF? Which might be useful for debugging.

Not feedback, just a gamebreaking combo.
So if you ever get the chance to, get great fishing rod or shifty barkeep and use dj boney (On 2 attack cards or more.) then bring it back with the rod or barkeep and use it again. It's guaranteed to give you 10 or more attack, and remember, that's with just 2 1-attack (I forgot the name sorry) cards, now with around 2-3 2-attack cards, you'd have some serious attack.
And @Elastiskalinjen
I wanna thank you again(?) for making this game, it's really fun, and I can't wait for future updates.

@Vinnyc11: I don't think that's gamebreaking, that's just synergy? A lot of the strategy of deckbuilding games is building a lot of synergy into your deck with randomized resources available.
Also, resisting the temptation to leave an enemy around for many consecutive turns in hopes of capturing it and using it yourself, which I do way too much. >_>;

I lost so many games by accidentally forfeiting. I had no idea I was doing it, I would just be dealing my final damage to the boss for the turn and pressing x to try and end my turn and I would insta-die. I thought I was just missing some lose condition concept of the game. It wasn't until I started writing this comment did I notice that it says "forfeit" when hovering over the boss :facepalm:
Great game otherwise! Would be nice if that button had a confirmation prompt though.
[edit] Darn, I had baby shark on 1 hp then I did it again :P I notice it does prompt you on forfeit if you have resources left, but not if you have no resources left.

Hey I found a bug. After using the old hermit card, if you end up killing yourself with it and choosing rematch, you will not be able to draw, and cards will not auto draw at the beginning of the next round.

This is one of my favourite Pico-8 games. Thanks for making this.
Is it okay if I build another game heavily inspired by this? The idea is to have similar mechanics, card effects, controls, and card stats. But it'll have different art and sound. And it won't be written in Pico-8.

@Zuf Thank you!
I am in the middle of making a follow up in love2d now so making it in a new engine would not be very kind.
But this card game is a deck builder of the likes of Ascension or Star realms. So what I would suggest is to play some more deck builders and see what you want to recreate! It is always more rewarding to create something original!
Good luck!

@Elastiskalinjen
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried Ascension and Star Realms. They're great, and they gave me more to think about. I've also played Dominion and Slay the Spire before.
I'll try making something more original.

@Gucci-Chicken I just released a completely new version out now on Steam!

@irdumb I have also fixed this in the pico-8 version regarding accidentally forfeiting! :)
Thanks everyone for playing and giving tons of feedback here! :)
