haha you know when you learn to make games and the tutorials are always like 'make a game where stuff falls from the sky and you catch it'
this is that but I didn't use a tutorial.
My first ever game which isn't just a tutorial, and my second total.
Hope it brightens your minute
It did brighten my minute! And well done on creating and finishing a game. I liked the randomness of catching falling pac-man ghosts and Mario artefacts. I am sure there is a deeper hidden meaning here about the struggles of the independant game developer against the giants of the modern computer game industry :)
OK, now for the stuff that you probably know this cart needs:
- A score! Where is the score ?
- A hi-score
- Reactions when items are caught or when they hit the ground
- The dirt particles that come out of the ground as you move (nice!) should probably only occur when you move.
- Items to avoid catching
- Variations in game-play over time
- Some better music :)
Pressing X actually extends the grappler, which adds a cool tactic aspect to the game. Also, particles! And also the smooth movement of the grappler! For a first game - very good!
I agree with @phil, some items to avoid catching would make the game more interesting.
Hahaha, I had the same problem with uploading carts the other day.
This is really nice! I loved that the player controls an extendo-arm thingy instead of the usual vanilla basket: it's interesting flavor-wise AND extending the grappler was actually super interesting mechanically. I'm gonna second the score suggestion--whether an elapsed time sort of thing or just keeping track of how many things you've caught, it would be nice to see how you're progressing. A reset option after game over would be nice too.
I also really liked the little touches, like the scrolling clouds and the particle effects. Overall this cart made me smile, and I think it runs well! Thanks for sharing :)
