I made a turn-based version of this years ago back in QBasic, 40-column text characters. What you do is have your opponent look ahead and decide if there is a longer distance traveling forward or in turning left or right.

Continue your opponent to always turn to the direction where the wall is the furthest away. Makes for a challenging opponent.
