Good but needs more than 2-screens. Also you might consider how ZZT did it. They had keys but they were colored and the locks were colored too.

You could only carry one-color key at a time but you could also carry up to 8-total keys of one time, one key for each color.

Might also look at the "Town Of ZZT" for some game ideas on creating effective and puzzling maps as well as opponent classes and shooting enemies.

Because i do plan on adding more things into this, I'm still learning obvi but its comments like these that help expand my knowledge on this and give me motivation to keep on going. So thank you, I'm not sure how to reply back directly so i hope you see this. Thanks again!

ZZT is a very old DOS game with literally a thousand worlds others have written in it. You can download it HERE:

https://museumofzzt.com/zzt

play it with DOSBOX found HERE:

https://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1

HOPE THIS HELPS !

At some point when I slow down I wanted to make a "game-maker" based heavily on ZZT for PICO-8 that uses 256-bytes of save-space for your world, albeit the ability to save 32 individual worlds in PICO per player.

As it is I'm still working the code to my gaming calculator and want to finish that first.

Great work @ASymmetric! I don't think you need to go crazy with screens (especially when starting): you can make a great puzzle-y/action game with just a few assets.

For example, I really liked this game: http://www.draknek.org/games/puzzlescript/skipping-stones.php - it only had a few rules (and in total only a handful of screens) and was really simple, but I played it for hours and HAD to finish it.

That reminded me of your game here - if you make another one or two tile types (portals?), and did some careful level-planning then you'd have a finished game!

@mrspeaker wait what do you mean like going crazy with the screens? I literally just took mboffins tutorial cart and copy n pasted it over and changed the assets to my liking and messed with the code a bit with what i knew how to do already. My idea was to make this a sort of open world
adventure game with puzzles n clues n what not. It's still a WIP as I'm still learning i just dont get what you mean with the screen thinge cause i need that to make it sort of open world
