hmm... there seems to be some sort of bug at the end of the first level. After I get to the dragon, the game fades in and out of a shot of the castle in the sky filled with jewels (even though I picked them up in my run through the level). Here's a screen cap of the fade in and fade out.

Oh, and XP, windowed mode. I'm using Z, X, and the cursor keys.

That's interesting.. does it not happen in other levels? And I'm guessing it happens every time, for you to be ready to take a screenshot?

P#513 2008-02-15 07:20 ( Edited 2008-03-05 00:26)

Yup. I've tried finishing the level about ten times now, and it always goes back to that screen and fades in and out. The game continues to make jumping and throwing noises when I press those keys. And I don't know about the later levels, as I can't seem to pass this screen.

The beta version that you sent me via facebook earlier this week also had a related bug. When I played through the first level, it crashed, but I figured that was just something to prevent distribution before the game was even released. So at the time I used the skip level key to move on to later levels, and I had no problems with finishing them.

I'll go play around with this some more and even try reinstalling and let you know if anything changes.

EDIT: Apparently I'm a dumb bug researcher. I just ran start to finish without grabbing everything, and it let me on to the next level. Then I restarted again, got everything, and ran into the bug again. Here's my save file. If you just run to the blue dragon, it should recreate the bug.

Hi there. I've encountered the same issue, running on Mac OS X 10.5.2 (9C31).

P#515 2008-02-15 16:24 ( Edited 2008-03-05 00:26)

Thanks for the save game file gnaw -- I couldn't reproduce it myself until I loaded it, and discovered that the bug only happens when you play after saving at an inn. It's fixed now -- I'll upload some new builds later today.

P#516 2008-02-16 08:56 ( Edited 2008-03-05 00:26)

ok, I've uploaded v2.01 now. Unfortunately, my hosting provider has broken my upgrade scripts )-:<
It should be fixed soon, but for now you can use the same links that you received when you bought the game (or the ones in the email on the 14th for pre-order customers). Just check that the version is 2.01 on the title page.

You can install the game over your old copy to keep save game data.

New in v2.01:
Fixed bug: Save game at inn, collect all treasure + globes, trigger blue dragon.
Fixed bug: Player incorrectly loses potions when restarting level in some cases.
Fixed bug: Player death when a key dropped by a monster exists prevents the level from restarting.
Added bonus for collecting more than 3 shields.
Improved sound.
Many minor bug fixes.

I just tried the demo and I really love the game. The retro style graphics are so beautiful and the gameplay is great.

1) Will it be possible for buyers of JJ to download the old DOS version in addition to the windows version?

2) Are there cheat codes available?

3) Is there a chance that there will be a game guide online in the near future describing how to find all the secret places?

Congratulations again to such a great game!

Hi Joseph,
As I dont have a credit card is there another way of sending payment to you?
Australian money order, cheque, cash?

Thanks
Jill
P.S The kids LOVE the demo and cant wait to play the whole thing.

Hi Walter. I didn't think about offering the DOS version. Feel free to email me (joseph at lexaloffle dot com) if you'd like a copy.

There are some cheat codes. The most useful one is for shields. It's a bit of a spoiler, so I'll put it cryptically:

Hold down three keys at once. You can guess what they are.

There will be a player's guide coming soon in a series of posts. Check back here in a few days for the first one.

Jilly - I sent you an email.

P#525 2008-02-27 09:55 ( Edited 2008-03-05 00:26)

Okay, I give up. On JJ level 3, how do you get into the room containing a Golden Globe and 4 Treasure Chests??

P#526 2008-02-28 16:58 ( Edited 2008-03-05 00:26)

You get in..

from the right. You'll have to do a small jump by pressing the jump button briefly, to avoid landing on the blue flower.

Hi Joseph,

Have emailed you privately but wanted to post here for all to see just how impressed we are with the new Jasper, the kids havent stopped playing it,except for food and toilet breaks. You have done an amazing job!! The graphics are just gorgeous and all the new characters are just wonderful! You should be very proud of a fantastic game.

Thanks
Jilly

OK I really give up - on level 13 JJ, how do I get out at the top of the caves. The flying potion won't let me go back up all the way?

Thanks
Lanni

To get up the top in level 13..

from top daisy right at the start, jump left. There is a single invisible block which lights up when you stand on it. You can use it as a shortcut to the end of the level, but you miss out on being able to buy any potions to help with the fire snake.

P#534 2008-03-04 18:30 ( Edited 2008-03-05 00:26)

Thanks for that. It was really bugging me to see the area above - I thought I was missing out on something!
