Pimon is inspired by the traditional simon game. I implemented a pico-8 version of this classical game to train my brain.

Rules

Pimon plays at first two tones. After that you have to repeat this tones in the correct order. If your are correct pimon will repeat the tones and add one more. Now you have to repeat it again and again ...
If you repeat 4 times the correct tones you get a live up. This allows you once to type in an incorrect answer. After that pimon will repeat the latest tones.

Controls

Start the game with hitting the x-button. As long as pimon plays you can not hit the tone-buttons. On your turn you use the arrow buttons to play the tones.

Background story

Some weeks ago I found the pico 8 platform and it inspired me to start program my own first pico 8 game. I decide to start with a small project to explore the API and documention. The simon game seems for me to be a manageable and great game mechanic for that.

Pretty good, @milchreis. Reminds me of this game I got from Radio Shack that many years ago.

I would not end the game on the first error though. Give perhaps 2- 3-chances in all.

  1. Amateur, you get 3-chances.
  2. Champ, you get 2-chances.
  3. Expert, you only get 1-chance to get the sequence correctly.

Display the # of chances. Keep track of them. Remove a chance if error done, then computer plays back sequence.

Good that you are speeding up the game once you get past level 10. Suggest you change it to a ramp. That is on level one it plays quite slowly, level 2 faster, 3 faster still, etc. Match it so the speed is the same when you hit level 10 instead of just suddenly going faster.

A 2nd game you could select would allow you to add a button of your choosing after each sequence so while the computer chooses a random of the 4, once you have entered that correctly you yourself get a chance to add one of the buttons 1-4, which is added to the total sequence.

Then when it plays back for the next level it includes the added choice you made, making the game sequence get doubly difficult in the same amount of time.

With expert level on the 2nd game, you cannot choose the same color the computer chose when you add your color to the set.
