When trying to save in the console, I keep getting the "Failed to save" error.

I've tried moving pico-8 off the desktop, and into my user folder, but it still isn't co-operating. ;-;

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Moving the program doesn’t help becasue pico-8 saves carts in a directory defined in the config file (see https://www.lexaloffle.com/dl/docs/pico-8_manual.html#_File_System to find it).
