It came to my mind how cool would it be to having statues of enemies that would come to life when we came close enough. I don't know if anything similar has been done before but I went to try it myself, as you can see in this test level.

It doesn't look too bad, but the animation has not many frames, since that would require much more work. Also the animation itself is complex to set up on the room as it is, let alone with more frames. Still, this serves to show it is possible, and I believe we will certainly have options in future versions to make stuff like this with a simple process.

note: also, to make the frames/props appear instantly, put 2 in the "instant" box. Thanks for the tip, Zep :)

Extremely interesting, just imagine this combined with the monster editor :P

Exactly! When that editor comes out, we may not even need to make the props of the statue separatly. It can be already part of the monster "actor" itself.
Also: giant statue monsters... oh boy :D

I've tryed it myself, and it's possible, really easy just have to combine timing and use the invisible block that will remove the "statue" and time it so that the monster appear at the same time !

yep, that's exactly how I made mine. However, it gets much harder for more complex animations, with many frames, it will require many props and many invisible blocks.
It is also hard to select and copy all the group when they fit exactly one over the other (like in this level).

It will be much simpler, in the future, to just design the frames we want into one single actor, no invisible blocks and the like.

Indeed, proper animation will be great. But what you've done is already a really nice application of what it there !

Thank you JohnK07

Thanks! I may try to use this on something more complex in the future when I got the time.
Meanwhile, I hope to have inspired someone to also use this idea in some of their maps and make an awesome level :)
